He charged the Taekwondo Federation of Nigeria to maintain peace in the federation as preparations for Nigeria’s qualification for the Olympic Games in Rio next year are in top gear.
In a statement signed by the S.A to the Honourable Minister, Nneka Anibeze Barrister Solomon Dalung gave the charge following another false report online that the Ministry has upheld the impeachment of its President Mr George Ashiru.
He said they are aware that there a problem in the Taekwondo Federation but they are not aware of any impeachment of the President or any other person.
He added that they have received petitions from members of the TFN board and also from the President of the Federation George Ashiru adding that there are processes for impeachment and removal of a President of a federation
Dalung said the ministry will look at the petitions before them objectively and call for both parties to see how the issue can be settled amicably.
The board remains as we met it with Ashiru as President .
For now, we want to avoid further distractions as our focus is on how to qualify for the Rio Olympics” Dalung explained.
The board of the NTF announced the removal of George Ashiru as President of the Taekwondo Federation on December 13, 2015 , a day after it successfully hosted the 2015 edition of the Korean Ambassador Taekwondo Championship at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.
Nigeria is expected to take part in the qualification tournament for the Olympic Games in Morocco in February next year
Nigeria Taekwondo Federation (NTF) board has reaffirmed that factional President Margaret Binga is its valid president after the impeachment of embattled president Grand Master George Ashiru on the 12th December by six board members.
It will be recalled that a board member of the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation, Alhaji Ado Garko in Kano said the impeachment of President Taekwondo Federation, Grand Master George Ashiru “stands” adding that the process was in accordance with the law.
