The management of former Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL champions, Kano Pillars football club has described the performance of its club in the just concluded 2016/2017 season as not impressive.
The club's chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Tukur Babangida revealed this on Monday in a meeting with players and technical crew of the team at the club Secretariat.
Babangida said the club did not achieved its target of winning the title or secured a continental ticket.
He said the State government and the management did their best by fulfilling all the promises made to the players which included, prompt payment of salaries, bonuses and flying them by air to some away match venues in order to make them comfortable.
The chairman said his board has learnt a lot this season and will strategize on the way forward for a better performance next season.
"Though we did not achieve our target we thanked God for the hitch free season and the position we found ourselves at the end of the season," Babangida said.
He was of the opinion that though the team is blessed with talented players but lack of commitment on part of some of the players was the greatest problem the club faced in the out gone season.
"Kano Pillars FC, have good players but lack of commitment from some of them causes the set back of the team. For us now is better to have unskillful players that are committed instead to have skillful that are not committed," he said.
He directed the technical crew to submit their report to the board for study and further action.
Alhaji Babangida announced the end of the season break and said all players should return to Kano on October 9, ahead of next season preparation.
He commended the State football association, referees council, sports writers, the fans and the entire people of the State for their untiring support for the club and urged them to be patience as the management will do every thing possible to restore the club status.
Responding, the acting Technical Adviser of the club, Ibrahim Musa thanked the State government and the management for given them the opportunity to lead the club from the second stanza to the end of the season and pledged to do more if given another chance next season.
The Sai Masu Gida ended the season in 8th position with 54 points in the 38 matches they played.
