Yuletide: Doyin & Susan Foundation distributes food items to vulnerable women in Kogi

By Stephen Adeleye

An NGO, Doyin and Susan Foundation on Wednesday, distributed food items and clothing materials worth millions of naira to vulnerable women in some rural communities in Isanlu, Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State.

Speaking to journalists at the distribution centre in Primary School Oke-Oba in Isanlu, the NGO's Founder, Mrs Doyin Ibikunle Eshanum, said the gesture was part of the foundation's humanitarian activities to reach out to 200 vulnerable widows at Chirstmas.

''We actually prepared for just 200 widows but we were overwhelmed by the huge turnouts of both women and men including the Fulani community.

''So, we have to make additional provisions to reach out to more people and put smiles on their faces at Christmas.

''We thank God we were able to eventually reachout to over 500 less privileged people including widows, women and men'', she said.

She disclosed that the foundation had also in April 2020 donated cash worth N1 million to the less privileged widows in Itedo-oba, Itedo-Irunda and Irunda-Ile communities in isanlu, to cushion the effect of COVID-19 pandemic, where each beneficiary got N2000.

According to her, cash donation was meant to cushion the effect of coronavirus on the vulnerable women in the area during the lockdown in 2020.

“This humanitarian gesture is part of our vision to reaching out to the less privilege and the vulnerable in order to alleviate their suffering in the time of need.

“This is not the first time we are carrying out such humanitarian activities in the state as a way of improving the beneficiaries' wellbeing,” she said.

While commending governments for their efforts in alleviating the suffering of the masses, she called for improved social welfare especially for the less privileged at the grassroots.

Eshanumi enjoined to other NGOs, philanthropists and well spirited individuals and corporate organisations to emulate the gesture and lend help to the indigent and less privileged in the society.

Some of the beneficiaries, who spoke to our Correspondent, thanked the foundation for the humanitarian gesture towards alleviating their sufferings especially in the rural areas.

Mrs Serah Olabisi and Mrs Bosede Ayeni, in their separate comments, prayed that God would continually protect the founder of the foundation, her family as well as the foundation to enable it to continue to grow and reaching out to more people.

Items distributed were: rice, salt, groundnut oil, spaghetti, noodles, food ingredients, clothings, among others.

MY BEST CHRISTMAS EVER: HON OLOBATOKE SEGUN SAMUEL CELEBRATES CHRISTAMAS AT ORPHANAGE HOMES

The Senior Special adviser to the Governor on Youth and Women Mobilization,  Hon Olobatoke Segun Samuel has described this year's Christmas as his best ever as he took his friends and families out of the comfort zones of their homes to all the orphanage homes to celebrate the birth of jesus christ with the wonderful kids in those various orphanage homes.

SOS as he is fondly called, who is a strong believer of christ's  birth, live, death and resurrection said jesus in his life time loves children as evident in the bible where he said " let the children come to me , for theirs is the kingdom of God" and so whoever claim to love and serve christ should on such a glorious day of his birth demonstrate such love for children, which is what he and his families and friends had done to celebrate their own Christmas.

He also said he believes the children of today, all of the rich ,  poor and those that are orphans are the future of the tomorrow so any country that wants to be great or be called a great nation must pay attention and show love to the children.

He reiterated that he wouldnt have had a fulfilled Christmas if not for all he did for the children yesterday.

In his words, Hon Olobatoke Segun Samuel said " there is no fulfillment or happiness derived from anywhere other than that which is derived from putting smiles on the faces of the less privileged.

My family and I feel so much fulfilled today as we have touched the lives of these wonderful kids who I believe will never forget this day for the rest of their lives.

Their care givers are happy,  the kids are happy and we all that came here really had a great time with them".

One of the caregiver who was interviewed said " this is one of the greatest moment of our lives here. This is a moment we will never forget and this is a moment our kids will always remember all the days of their life .

SOS and his people gave us so much gifts, danced with the children and donated so many items for our orphanage. God will bless him and his home and God shall grant all his heart desires in jesus name. We are happy and grateful to him".

Hon Olobatoke Segun Samuel  who was fully adorned in father Christmas costume also drove round the town to donate gifts to the people as they took turns from one place to another.

It was indeed a great day in the life of the children of those orphanage home and there was so much love in the air.

Christmas for the family of SOS is indeed a time of giving and the SSA and his friends and families showed that they are truly men and women of great conscience and they promise to continue this good work all year round .
