... MAKES HISTORIC VISIT TO ITAKPE CAMPUS
The Governing Council of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja has approved the promotion of Five (5) Principal Lecturers to the rank of Chief Lecturers just as it approved demotion of one from Chief Lecturer to Principal Lecturer over gross misconduct.
This was part of the far reaching decisions made at the 64th Regular Meeting of the Governing Council led by the chairman, Professor Isa Yakubu held on Tuesday, 21st of September, 2021 at the Polytechnic's Council Chamber.
Having considered the recommendations from the Appointments, Promotions and Disciplinary Committee (AP&DC), Council approved the promotion of Olorunniyi Adebola Emmanuel and Ahmed Onimisi Matthew (both of the Department of Sciences, School of Preliminary Studies), Omolegbe Leah Tinuola (Department of Arts and Social Sciences, School of Preliminary Studies), Zubair Ajoze Abdulraheem ( Computer Science Department) and Audu Ozohu Omolola Muhammed ( Department of Library and Information Science) to the rank of Chief Lecturer.
Council also approved the recommendation that Mr. John Edoka, a Chief Lecturer in the Department of Public Administration be demoted to the rank of Principal Lecturer to serve as deterrent to others for his involvement in act of gross misconduct bordering on dishonesty, student victimisation and disobedience to lawful order.
In the same vain, the appointment of Mr. Dominic O. Idakwo, a Lecturer II from the Department of Science and Laboratory Technology (SLT) was terminated for abscondment from duty since 2018 after he was granted study leave with pay.
Council further resolved that, Mr. Oguntunyi Oluwaseun, a Computer Technician in the Information Technology and Resource Centre (ITRC) be made to pay for the six missing laptops under his care.
Council also resolved that Mr. Olufemi Anthony Ajibodun of the Department of Science Laboratory Technology, be made to refund the sum of Two Million, Six hundred and nineteen thousand, nine hundred and thirty six naira, fifteen kobo only (N2,619,936,15) he collected as part of TETFUND scholarship grant for "up -keep" at the University of Central Lancashire, United Kingdom in 2012 which he did not attend.
Earlier in the day, the Governing Council made history with oversight visit to the Itakpe Campus of the Polytechnic which is the first of its kind in the history of the institution.
Led by the Chairman, Professor Isa Yakubu, Council inspected facilities at the three Schools of Engineering, Agricultural Technology and Preliminary Studies on the campus, and expressed satisfaction with the level of development there.
Professor Yakubu who stressed the need for vocational and technical studies to be given more priorities due to its relevance to societal needs, commended the Rector, Dr. Salisu Ogbo Usman for his commitment to the growth of the campus.
The Dean, School of Engineering, Dr. Stephen Akande thanked the Governing Council and the Polytechnic Management for the historic visit, just as he pleaded that the campus be fenced to forestall security challenges.
Professor Isa Yakubu while thanking the Council Members for their support and commitment in the quest to make Kogi State Polytechnic a positive reference for other institutions, said Council would continue to provide needed support to management of the institution to achieve their set goals.
Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. Salisu Ogbo Usman praised His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello for providing the enabling environment and his continued support to matters concerning education especially Kogi State Polytechnic.
Dr. Usman equally thanked the Chairman and members of the Governing Council for their leadership roles and encouragement to the Management in repositioning the Polytechnic in good stead.
