Africa Youth Games 2025: Matthew Fabunmi secures Bronze medal for Team Nigeria in Table Tennis

One of Nigeria's talented table tennis players, Matthew Fabunmi has won a Bronze medal for the country at the ongoing Africa Youth games in Luanda, Angola.

Fabunmi became the latest medalist for the West African nation after defeating Uganda's Joseph Sabataria in the 3rd place match. 

The Ugandan, who was the champion from the World Hope week challenge in London a few months ago, was beaten 3-2 by the young enterprising Nigerian.

Speaking with newsmen from the Oil-rich Portuguese-speaking African nation, Coach Friday Abah who trained and prepared Fabunmi for the tournament said the Bronze medal won by the youngster is just the first to come as they have a handful of medals to win as the games progresses. 

The mixed team event will get underway later today. 

Nigeria also maintained its momentum in Beach Volleyball as the team claimed its second consecutive victory, defeating Namibia 2-0 in a commanding style to keep their campaign firmly on track.

With spirits high and performances improving, Team Nigeria will aim to build on these results as the games progress.

Competition in the 2025 edition of the Africa Youth Games is taking place across six cities, and it's the first time a Portuguese-speaking African nation is staging the games.

DO5 Life Foundation sponsors education of indigent twins, donates to Igye-Ako Orphanage Ahead of Official Launch

DO5 Life Foundation, a newly established non-governmental organization dedicated to uplifting underprivileged children and vulnerable groups in Nigeria through education, healthcare, and welfare support, has begun its humanitarian activities even before its official launch.

As part of pre-launch outreach efforts, the foundation paid a heartfelt give-back visit to Igye-Ako Orphanage in Jos, Plateau State, to identify with indigent and vulnerable children.

The visit, which took place on Friday, 12th December 2025, saw the foundation’s team provide essential support and award full academic scholarships to a set of twins, Esther and Ruth, who were raised at the orphanage.

Led by its Relationship Manager, Mr Nenman Talut, the DO5 Life Foundation selected the twins as a flagship project, emphasizing its strong belief in the transformative power of educating the girl child. 

The foundation holds that investing morally and academically in girls yields far-reaching positive impacts, not only on their immediate communities but on society and the world at large.

Mr Talut in company of other officials from DO5 Life Foundation including Mrs Elizabeth Anyim (HR Manager), Mr Samuel Abayomi (Brand Marketing Manager), Mrs Mary Monday and Mr Fasal Abdullahi also presented generous quantities of food items, groceries, and toiletries to the orphanage on behalf of the foundation, along with a firm commitment to sustain such visits and support in the future.

The founder of Igye-Ako Orphanage, Mrs Mary Adamu Usoji, expressed profound joy and gratitude for the visit and donations. 

She appreciated the DO5 Life Foundation for its timely intervention and prayed for the organization’s rapid growth and success.

Mrs Usoji highlighted the orphanage’s numerous challenges and appealed for continued support and collaboration from organizations like DO5 Life Foundation to give hope and meaning to the lives of indigent and vulnerable children.

The DO5 Life Foundation will be officially launched on Sunday, 14th December 2025, at Tamarald Event Centre, Old Airport Road, Jos, Plateau State.

 

NWFL: Confluence Queens primed to bounce back against Remo Stars Ladies - Abubakar

 

Head Coach of Confluence Queens, Musa Abubakar, has declared that his team is mentally and physically prepared to secure a positive result in their upcoming league fixture.

The Lokoja-based club will host Remo Stars Ladies in a Matchday Three clash of the Nigeria Women Football League, NWFL in Iyamho on Wednesday.

Abubakar's side will be aiming to register their first win of the new season, having drawn 2-2 with Abia Angels in their opener and suffered a defeat in their second game against FC Robo Queens last week.

Abubakar revealed that the technical crew has reviewed the team's performances and implemented necessary adjustments, expressing optimism about a positive outcome.

"Actually, we have done all the necessary build-ups and the preparation was excellent. We hope that the players will be able to replicate what we see in training," Abubakar told Onward News 24 in an exclusive interview.

"They look ready and sharp, and if they are able to do that in game situations, I don't think we would have any challenge in winning the match, considering the fact that the three points are very crucial to us at this level where we are now.

"In terms of preparedness, I think we are set, we are ready and we are good to go for the game."

Reflecting on the team's last outing, where they suffered an embarrassing 4-0 defeat to FC Robo Queens in Lagos, 'Manaman' as Coach Abubakar is fondly called, described the result as devastating and far below expectations.

However, he disclosed that corrections have been made following that game and promised an improved performance, starting with the clash against Remo Stars Ladies.

"Our last outing in Lagos (against FC Robo Queens) was devastating and we are not accepting it from the technical crew because that is not actually our expectation.

"But you know, at times when it happens in football, you have to take it in good faith and go back to the drawing board to see how it happened and how effective corrections could take place to avoid any reoccurrence, which we have done and positively, it will work in our favour on Wednesday.

Confluence Queens commiserate with Captain Hauwa Abdullahi over brother's demise

 

Confluence Queens Football Club has identified with their captain, Hauwa Abdullahi following the tragic news of the passing of her elder brother on Tuesday.

The tragic loss of Nicolas Faruq Abdullahi, confirmed by family sources, has left the skipper and her loved ones devastated. 

Hauwa, known for her leadership, calm strength, and unwavering commitment to the team, has received an outpouring of sympathy from teammates, coaches, and club officials.

In an official message, the club extended its deepest condolences to the captain and her family, describing the late Nicolas as a supportive brother whose encouragement contributed to Hauwa’s growth both on and off the pitch.

“Our hearts are with Hauwa in this difficult moment. Losing a loved one is never easy, and we stand firmly with her in prayers, support, and solidarity,” the club stated.

The management also urged players and supporters of Confluence Queens to keep the Abdullahi family in their thoughts as they navigate this painful period.

While the team continues preparations for its upcoming matches, officials confirmed that Hauwa will be given all the time she needs to mourn and be with her family.

Late Nicolas Faruq Abdullahi will be remembered for his humility, kindness, and evident pride in his sister’s football journey.

NWFL: Kogi Government motivates Confluence Queens with new incentives ahead of season opener with Abia Angels

Kogi State Government has announced new welfare packages in a bid to get the best from Confluence Queens in the new football season.

The State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Honourable Monday Aridaojo Anyebe made the announcement when he interacted with the team on Monday before departing for their season opener against Abia Angels on Wednesday. 

The Lokoja based club will get their season underway against the visitors from Umuahia at the Edo State University football pitch in Iyamho. 

It will be recalled that Confluence Queens prosecuted their home games at the football pitch of Prince Abubakar Audu University Anyigba last season.

Confluence Queens will kick off their 2025/26 Nigeria Women Premier League (NWFL) campaign with a home fixture against Abia Angels.

They have now returned to Iyamho, following the league body’s decision to rule out Ayingba due to inadequate facilities.

Speaking on behalf of the team, the Team Manager, Mrs. Tosin Olorunleke Ojo, commended the State Government through Commissioner for it's commitment to the club’s wellbeing.

"I want to sincerely appreciate the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports for all his efforts to ensure Confluence Queens are fully ready for the new season. 

"He has been working tirelessly to keep the team happy, especially the players and coaches. He has also assured us of more goodies and packages that will motivate the team to make Kogi State proud as ambassadors in women’s football.”

Mrs. Ojo also praised the club’s chairman, Hon. Abdulmalik Isah (Dolly), for his unrelenting dedication to ensuring Confluence Queens enjoy a smooth and successful season.

NNL: Oyebanji unveils Ekiti United’s new jerseys ahead of new NNL season

 

The Executive Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, on Tuesday unveiled the new jerseys of Ekiti United Football Club as the team steps up preparations for the forthcoming Nigeria National League (NNL) season.

The unveiling ceremony, held at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium in Ado-Ekiti, was performed on behalf of the Governor by the Technical Advisor on Sports Development, Dr. (Mrs.) Olusola Osetoba.

Dr. Osetoba, while speaking at the event, reaffirmed the commitment of the state government to the development of sports and the continued support for Ekiti United. 

She charged the players to justify the confidence reposed in them by the government through hard work and dedication on the field.

"I encourage the players to repay the confidence the government has shown by performing well this season," she said.

The ceremony was attended by top government officials, football stakeholders, representatives of the Ekiti United Supporters Club, and members of the Professional Footballers Association. 

Also in attendance were the Special Assistants on Sports, Hon. Tunde Adesanya and Hon. Kola Owoseni.

Speaking at the event, Head Coach Idris Bolarinwa described the unveiling as a symbol of renewed commitment and a fresh beginning for the team. He assured fans that the players were determined to deliver a successful season.

"We are excited about the new jersey. It represents a new chapter for the club, and we promise to make our fans proud through hard work and positive results," he stated.

Team Captain Seyi Akinyemi expressed appreciation to the state government for its continued support, promising that the players would give their best in every match.

The new kit looks great. We will wear it with pride and fight for victory in every game on behalf of the Governor and the good people of Ekiti State," he said.

National YOWICCN Holds 6th General Assembly, 13th Anniversary Celebration in Kogi State

 

The National Youth Wing of the Christian Council of Nigeria (YOWICCN), the largest Orthodox Youth composition in Africa, marked a defining milestone in its faith journey as it held its 6th General Assembly and 13th Anniversary Celebration at the United Evangelical Church (UEC) Headquarters, Lokoja, Kogi State.

The three-day national event was held between 7th and 9th November, 2025. 

The landmark event brought together delegates from across the country, ecumenical leaders, dignitaries, and youth representatives from various denominations under the Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN), all united under the inspiring theme, "Compelled by Grace: Jesus Our Example” (Titus 2:11–12).

The atmosphere in Lokoja was filled with gratitude, colour, and the unmistakable presence of grace as Christian youths converged to celebrate thirteen years of steady growth, unity, and impact. 

The theme served as both a challenge and a reminder a call for Christian youths to live disciplined, purpose driven lives that reflect the transforming power of God’s grace through Jesus Christ.

In his heartfelt Address, the National President of YOWICCN, Barr. Ekpa Emmanuel Attai, charged the Christian youths in Nigeria to let the love of Christ be the ultimate motivation in all their endeavours. 

Speaking passionately, he declared, "Grace is not an excuse for mediocrity; it is the divine energy for excellence and moral courage. 

"We are not coerced, but compelled by love love that serves rather than seeks to be served, love that sacrifices rather than competes, love that shines rather than complains."

Barr. Emmanuel further explained that being "compelled by grace" means being "compelled by love" to always do what is right and noble, even in the face of challenges. 

"If we are truly compelled by His grace," he added, "then love will guide our words, our work, and our witness in society. 

"We must be the light that shows Christ’s example to our nation."

The celebration brimmed with life and cultural richness. Youth choirs from CCN member denominations rendered melodious praise songs in Ókúñ, Igala, Bassa, and Igbo dialects, symbolizing unity in diversity. 

The Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN) Youth representing YOWICAN Choir Kogi State joined in solidarity, their voices blending in harmony with two moving renditions that deepened the spirit of Christian fellowship.

Among the dignitaries for the occasion were H.E. Elder Comrade Joel Salifu Oyibo, Deputy Governor of Kogi State; H.E. Chief Dr. Edward Onoja, former Deputy Governor of Kogi State, represented by Barrister Benjamin Atomode (popularly called Lord Bishop); Most Rev’d Emmanuel A. S. Egbunu, Ph.D., Diocesan Bishop of Lokoja (Anglican Communion); Bishop John Ibenu, immediate past Kogi State CAN Chairman; and Rev. Samuel S. Essien, Chairman of the Christian Council of Nigeria, Kogi State. Also present were Hon. Justice Ojoma Rachael Haruna, Hon. Justice S. O. Ochimana (Rtd.), and Hon. Justice H. E. Yusuf, alongside other Magistrates of the Kogi State Judiciary, Barristers, Royal Fathers/Mothers and Fathers of Faith who have continually supported youth ministry and the ecumenical movement across the state and beyond.

Notable distinguished personalities were honoured with Pillar of Ecumenism and Ambassadorial Awards in recognition of their commitment to church unity, youth empowerment, and Christian witness in Nigeria.

The guest preacher, Pastor Alikali Monday, delivered a powerful sermon in line with the theme, urging young Christians to reflect the grace of Christ in their daily living and to model integrity, humility, and compassion in every sphere of life. 

His message set a spiritually charged tone for the plenary sessions that followed, where delegates deliberated on youth leadership, faith, and social responsibility in today’s world.

In his national address, Barr. Attai highlighted the vision of YOWICCN as a movement with divine purpose rather than a mere youth gathering. "Ours is not a mere gathering of young people,” he said. “It is a movement a divine commission to raise a new order of believers whose hearts burn for revival and whose lives speak louder than their words.”

He went on to outline four foundational pillars defining YOWICCN’s mission: Spiritual Reawakening, Leadership Development, Social Impact, and Institutional Strengthening a framework built to ignite revival, raise visionary leaders, translate faith into service, and sustain integrity and unity within the Christian Council of Nigeria. “Our movement is not political; it is prophetic,” he affirmed. 

"We are not driven by ambition but by assignment, not seeking titles but testimonies, not applause but impact."

Expressing deep gratitude to partners and sponsors, the National Youth Leader described them as "co-labourers in the vineyard of Christ." 

He said, "Your generosity is not limited to finances; it is a ministry of encouragement, faith, and kingdom advancement. You have chosen not merely to support a programme but to invest in a generation an eternal seed that heaven honours."

Closing his address, Barr. Emmanuel gave a rousing charge to the youths: "You are the church of today, not tomorrow. Do not let the noise of the world drown the voice of your calling. You are chosen, capable, and anointed for relevance. Together, let us march as one body, undaunted, unashamed, and unstoppable till the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ."

The Assembly culminated in the election of a new set of executives led by Bro. EMMANUEL AYOKUNLE ENIADE to steer the affairs of YOWICCN for the next term, with renewed zeal to advance the mission of promoting Christian unity, leadership, and service among Nigerian youths.

The 6th General Assembly and 13th Anniversary celebration ended in thanksgiving, joy, and a renewed sense of mission. As voices rose in YOWICCN family Song and worship in unity. One thing was clear: YOWICCN is not just a youth organization; it is a living movement of grace, shaping lives, uniting the Church, and rekindling the flame of revival across Nigeria.

Clement Adeojo, YOWICCN Chairman, Kogi State, who also doubles as the Central Planning Committee Chairman anchored the program beautifully and it added colour to the day.

Be careful what you wish for

I see some Nigerians buying the idea of the United States, U.S tagging our country as 'a country of particular concern' and proposing military invasion over the alleged violence against Christians and I panicked. 

I'm worried because some, of even many of them MAY not understand what international politics is all about. 

The America coming into Nigeria on the basis of that alleged Genocide may not be what they are coming for. 

History does not favor them in that regard. 

We've seen it happen and it's happening all the time. 

In Libya, Egypt, Iraq, Iran and Palestine et al. 

It's more like a usual pattern. 

They tell the world they were coming to intervene on something beneficial to the people of that country, they somehow turned the people against the government but beneath that, they've seen something beneficial to their country or a threat to their greatness. 

If you don't accept any of those precedents, take Libya as a serious case study. 

We all know how that country was under the late Mohammed Gaddafi and we can see how it is now. 

The Libyans that gave Gaddafi for the U.S to capture him are biting their fingers now in regrets. 

Just like my Principal, Prof Salisu Ogbo Usman (the Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic) said last week when we paraded suspects in Results forgery, that we are not interested in Abubakar Musa, Adejoh Faith or Mansuma Mercy Sunday who are in possession of fake Statement of Results using it to seek admission in our institution.

We are more interested in a certain Henry Tope who is the mastermind and head of syndicate producing forged statements of results, admission letters, certificates and other items used to produce illegal documents and his accomplices that are working with him from inside. 

So, with that in mind, I've been more curious to find that hidden treasure Donald Trump and his cronies may have discovered in Nigeria lately that they want to come lay claim to in disguise for helping us to fight the Insurgents or Banditry.

Or possibly, they are getting worried that we may soon bend the curve of our economic quagmire under the current administration and it could become a threat to them as Nigeria may not need their support or that of their allies to stand on her own. 

Remember, Nigeria is blessed with abundant natural resources and new ones have been discovered lately. 

Mind you, I'm not and will not support any kind of killing, insecurity or unrest happening in the country as it's having a direct effect on me with much worries about my family in the village or being tensed whenever I'm traveling. 

This em passe, this barbaric acts by those evil people is not done only to a certain set religion, tribe or class. No!

Everyone is feeling it. 

But I won't support any DIRECT foreign aides/support/intervention, especially from a country that has a long history with TRUST to help us fight Banditry, Insurgency or alleged religious killings. 

People should stop using religion as weapons to win political votes or gain relevance. 

It's not tidy and it's old school.

We should stop this parochial approach to handling national issues. 

We are in 2025 and some persons still believe they can still use religion or ethnicity to gain votes? Haba, please. 

Let's have faith, (I know it's a bit difficult) in the security agencies of this country, especially the military to face this minute set of evil people head one and support them with our prayers and intelligence reports/gathering. 

There are new sheriffs in town now in the Service Chiefs. 

Let's give them the benefit of the doubt that they will take it from where their predecessors left the fight by uncovering sponsors, financiers and encouragers of these ungodly killings in our country. 

My teacher, Mr. Bayour Issac does say in his closing lines after every of our Radio shows, that, "Nigeria is greater than any person of group. Don't be a saboteur, let us join hands together to make it great."

NWFL: Confluence Queens reinstate Tosin Ojo as Team Manager

 

In a renewed effort to strengthen the administrative structure of Confluence Queens Football Club, the management has reinstated Mrs. Tosin Ojo as the Team Manager ahead of the new Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) season.

The reinstatement was formally announced at the office of the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Monday Anyebe, in Lokoja.

While addressing Mrs. Ojo and other officials of the club, Hon. Anyebe congratulated her on her return and charged her, alongside the entire management and technical crew, to work together in unity and dedication to make Kogi State proud in the forthcoming season.

He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment, under the leadership of His Excellency, Alhaji Usman Ododo, to improving the welfare of players and staff while encouraging the dreams and aspirations of the girl child through sports.

Also present at the event was the Chairman of Confluence Queens, Hon. Abdulmalik Isah Dolly, who expressed confidence that Mrs. Ojo’s reinstatement would further strengthen the team’s operations and enhance their performance in the new campaign.

NNL: Sporting Lagos, Aliyu Baba shake hands to renew relationships for another season

Sensational striker, Aliyu Baba has extended his contract with Sporting Lagos for another season, Nigeriafootball.ng reports. 

The new contract will keep Baba with the Noisy Lagosians until 2026.

'Tiger' as Baba is fondly called joined the club from Abuja based football club, Mahanaim FC at the start of last football season and quickly became one of the integral members of Sporting Lagos. 

His contact renewal will further help his development just as it has encouraged continuity and stability for the modest club.

The talented striker has demonstrated exceptional skills and versatility as a player. 

He scored five goals in nine appearances for Sporting Lagos last season. 

Baba’s contract extension is expected to bolster Sporting Lagos’ chances of clinching a promotion ticket to the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, next season.

Ahmed Ghali: Ex Nigeria youth international switches clubs in Czech Superliga

Ahmad Ghali has completed a permanent move to SK Sigma Olomouc from Slovan Liberec in the Czech Republic top league.

The ex-player of Abuja-based Mahanaim FC sealed a three-year permanent deal with a subsequent one-year option, following a successful medical.

Expressing his excitement about the latest transfer, the former Nigeria U20 and MFM FC player said "I'm happy to be here, I'm excited to go to such a great club with great ambitions. I believe I will help the team".

 

He continued "It was a bit surprising for me. Everything was agreed within one week. I had to make a decision quickly, it wasn't exactly easy, but on the other hand I didn't have to think too long. 

"Sigma is a club that will play in Europe. I see it as a step forward in my career," said the 25-year-old Nigerian midfielder, who can play on both sides of the pitch.

Itinochi Team Partners Governor Ododo’s Spokesman to advance Cultural Integration

 

The Itinochi Revolution team has expressed readiness to partner with the office of the Special Adviser on Media to the Governor of Kogi State, Hon. Ismaila Isah, in advancing cultural revival through the 2025 edition of its annual festival.

Speaking during a courtesy visit to the Special Adviser in Lokoja, the team lead, Omeiza Peter, said the visit was informed by the need for deeper collaboration and wider visibility ahead of this year’s edition of the Itinochi Cultural Festival themed “Beyond Borders, Beneath the Root.”

He described the festival as a platform that connects people to their roots while promoting the dignity of Ebira tradition, stressing that partnership with key stakeholders would further enhance cultural promotion and community pride.

Also speaking, the founder of the Itinochi Revolution, Haruna Abdulhamid, emphasized the socio-economic value of the cultural initiative as he noted that women, through traditional weaving and other hand crafts, have historically supported their families and contributed significantly to local economies. 

According to him, reviving such practices would not only preserve heritage but also empower a new generation both economically and culturally.

Responding, Hon. Isah commended the resilience and creativity of the young minds behind the Itinochi project and pledged his support to promote the festival through the LugardTV  platforms.

He further emphasized that the initiative has grown remarkably over the years and has the potential to earn national recognition as part of events i. Nigeria’s cultural calendar.

The Governor’s spokesman also urged the team to sustain their efforts, stressing that projects of this nature are vital in preserving cultural identity, empowering youth and showcasing Kogi State’s heritage to the world.

HEARTY FELICITATIONS AND APPRECIATION TO KOGI STATE SGS AT 60

 

The chairman of the Kogi United and Confluence Queens, Honourable Abdulmalik Isah Dolly has joined a host of others well-wishers to felicitate with the Secretary to the Government of Kogi State, Dr. (Mrs) Folashade Ayoade Ariike on the auspicious occasion of her 60th birthday celebration. 

Honourable Dolly is his felicitation message said that Dr. Arike is known for her unwavering passion and commitment to contributing her quota to impacting humanity, not only in Kogi State but nationwide. 

The Chairman of Kogi State-owned football teams noted that Dr. Ariike's excellent service to the state and her people is inspiring not ruling out her contributions to sports development, football in particular. 

According to Honourable Dolly, "I called her mother because she has played a motherly role in our football teams especially Confluence Queens.

"On several occasions, she has rescued the team when we have difficulties."

"Today as she marked her 60th birthday, on behalf of the football teams, I'm extending our warmest felicitation to the Secretary to the Government of Kogi State. 

"As you celebrate this special day, I want to acknowledge your invaluable contributions to sustain the 'Continuity and Consolidation Agenda' of the present administration
