2muchsports has reliably scooped that the Director General of the National Sports Commission Al-Hassan Yakmut was invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) last Thursday (July 23, 2015) on allegations of misappropriation of public funds.
The NSC boss who was questioned for
some hours tried to defend the allegations but the EFCC officials told
him he would be summoned again during the course of their investigations
which has not been concluded.
There are strong allegations leveled
against Yakmut as 2muchsports also gathered that some very senior
officials of the Commission sent petitions to the EFCC as regards the
allegations leveled against the NSC boss which included the Initial
award of contract of N109 million for solar powered street lights for
the Abuja National Stadium which was never budgeted for and was to be
financed from the 2015 All African Games’ funds.
Upon observation of violation of
procurement act, it (the sum of N109 million) was split into four and
the first one was said to have been awarded at N32 million. The
execution of the contract it was also alleged commenced before the
Ministerial Tender’s Board (MTB) meeting. The contract has been
completed.
It was also alleged that the Director
General of the National Sports Commission, Al-Hassan Yakmut spent the
sum of N11 million for top management retreat that never took place.
Finally, some of the federations’
presidents have also allegedly complained of not getting their share of
the N30 million each that the NSC boss claimed to have paid to all the
sports federations in the country from the N750 approved by the
government for preparation for the 2015 All African Games.
