An All Progressives Congress gubernatorial aspirant in Kogi State,
General Yusuf Abubakar, rtd, has pledged to be committed to the
development of basic infrastructures if given the mandate to lead Kogi
State.
He stated that the state will amongst the needed opportunities for
the industrial revolution for the entire country.
The retired Army General equally promised to use his wealth of
experience to tackle the worsening security problems in the state if
given the opportunity, saying that the current trend is worrisome.
Abubakar who disclosed this to journalists in Lokoja over the
weekend, while declaring his intention to run for the governorship of
the state, noted that the state is under siege and required urgent steps
to salvage the situation.
He said: “Kogi state has had its fair share of insecurity problems,
communal crises, and lacks of adequate infrastructures which has
adversely affected its socio-economic development.
“We shall concentrate more on peace and confidence building aimed at
finding a lasting solution to the incessant and avoidable hostilities
among our people.”
He pointed out that Kogi is currently faced with some horrific
infrastructural dilapidation and deficit over the past years of its
existence, ranging from youth restiveness, unemployment, corruption in
public service and nonpayment of salaries as at when due.
Other challenges confronting the state, he said, include: poor road
networks in the rural areas, inefficient educational structures, poor
health service, deliberate gross irresponsibility of government
officials and lack of political will to tackle issues concerning
security of lives.
