Reigning Women’s Federation Cup Champions, Rivers Angels Football Club of Port Harcourt took to the house of God on Sunday to appreciate the Almighty for a successful 2016 football campaign.
The Thanksgiving service held at the Redemption Ministries, Foundation Faith Avenue, Rumuoamasi saw family, friends, fans, supporters and ex-players come together to celebrate God’s faithfulness to the team.
The Blue Angels beat Bayelsa Queens 5-3 on penalties to emerge champions of the Women’s Federation Cup for a record 7th time at the Teslim Balogun Stadium on November 6.
Team Manager of Rivers Angels, Matilda Michael Oyiloha described the thanksgiving service as one of the special days in her life.
“It’s one of my special days because in all the Lord has done, it is very important to go back to him and say thank you,”
“So today we are saying thank you for 2016 because it has been a wonderful season for us,” she said.
Rivers Angels are already in the finals of the Nigeria Women Premier League (NWPL) where they would be taking on Nasarawa Amazons on a yet to be decided date and venue.
Meanwhile, Rivers State Governor, Barrister Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike while hosting the Champions to a state dinner following their feat at the Federation Cup tasked the team to retain the NWPL title as another reward awaits them.
According to the Team manager, Matilda Michael Oyiloha the team is ready to take on Nasarawa Amazons whenever a date is decided.
“Even up to yesterday the girls were prepared to go for that tournament because when we were hosted, the governor made it known to us that he is waiting for that trophy,”
“So whenever the women’s league calls upon us, we’ll be ready to defend our title.” she added.
There were lots of side attractions after the thanksgiving service at the reception held inside the camp of Rivers Angels as families and friends of the players were thrilled with dressing, cooking, eating and dancing competitions amongst the players.
