Ayeni rues Sokoto United's draw against Jigawa

... still hopeful of promotion.

Sokoto United' left back David Kehinde Ayeni has lamented over his side's 1-1 home draw against Jigawa Golden Stars in the one Matchday 20 of Bet9ja Nigeria National League, NNL last Saturday.

The encounter that took place at the Giginya Memorial Stadium, Sokoto saw Nwani Morgan took the lead for Jigawa Golden Stars in the 20 minutes after capitalizing on defensive let off by Sokoto defenders.

David Ayeni level the score for the hosts from the spot with five minutes to end the first half after Charles Christian was upended in Jigawa's box.

Sokoto United dominated the entire proceedings in the second half but the defense of the Dutse based side proved soluble for the Caliphates Boys to leave the result in one apiece for both sides.

Speaking with our reporter in a telephone interview, Ayeni said that mother luck was not on the side of his team with series of wasted scoring chances recorded adding that the result has not totally hindered Sokoto's quest for promotion to the apex league in the country just as he expressed hope of reclaiming the lost points elsewhere to stand a chance yet again.

"It's an unfortunate result for us, we were just unlucky because we played with all energy left in us after we conceded the goal but we couldn't get the winning goal, it's a big set back, we've let two big points slipped from us at home, but it's one of those games, I do believe we could still pick up again and get decent results on the road.

"Well it has affected our ambitions to promote and but it's not late yet, there are more games left to play, though it may be difficult but I'm sure we can achieve it," he said.

The former Elkanemi Warriors and Kwara United creative wing back was delighted to have get the chance to play regular football again in his second stint with Sokoto United after felling out of position in the closing stage of his stay with Kwara United.

Ayeni, who has scored two goals and assisted three times for his new employers added that the opportunity would afford him the chance to get back top flight football any time soon.

I'm ok here, I'm used to this place (Sokoto) the town, the people and the team and I'm really happy that the team took me back after the terrible experience with Kwara United last season, at least I'm getting to play more games week in week out which is much important, it's a chance to relaunch myself back to mainstream," Ayeni concluded.
