The Rector of Kwara State Polytechnics, Alhaji Mas’ud Elelu has praised the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for initiating a football competition among tertiary institutions in the country, even as he urged the body to expand it to a multi-sports event.
Alhaji Elelu, while receiving the Main Organising Committee (MOC) of the competition in his office on Monday, said that the institution will partner the MOC to ensure a hitch-free and successful competition
He also charged other institutions and corporate bodies to emulate JAMB, adding that it will go a long way in keeping the youths busy meaningfully.
Alhaji Elelu said that Kwara Polytechnic will also compete in the competition fairly, having qualified for the finals of the 16-team competition.
Earlier in his address, the Chairman of the MOC, Pharmacist Kale Ayo said that JAM, in tandem with its philosophy of engaging the youths meaningfully, have accepted to sponsor a football competition among tertiary institutions every year.
Pharmacist Ayo, who was represented by the Secretary of the MOC, Alhaji Abdullateef Adebowale Adedeji said that the 16 institutions, which cuts across the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges of Educations represents the six geo-political zones of the country.
Alhaji Adedeji, who is the General Manager of Radio Kwara said that among the packages for the 16 institutions are accommodation, feeding, adding that the teams will also be kitted for the competition.
He seeks for areas of collaboration with Kwara State Polytechnic, in making the competition a successful one.
He thanked JAMB for supporting the competition, which has been scheduled to hold between August 20th to 27th, 2017
