Goalkeeper Shola Sheshere was the hero as Kogi United rallied from a goal down to beat Nationwide league side, Ekiti United in the Round of 64 of the 2016 Federation Cup.
The match played at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin on Wednesday saw the Confluence state club dominate the play from on set missing numerous chances through the opening play.
As the Ekiti United team saw their opponents throwing away their begging chances, they decided to get believe and come out at Kogi United which resulted to their goal in the 23rd minutes.
Akinrojoye Sunday was laid down the right flank after Destiny Ashadi lost possession he raced through the line and he cross was met Toba Oguntuase who headed far to the corner.
The Governor Yahaya Bello boys regained possession all through the game but were denied severally anytime.
The second half was all for Kogi United but they had to thank Ekiti United defenders who weren't clear their line in the 88th minutes to allow substitute Musa Jatau gained possession in the box. His final touch was however denied by handball from Ekiti's Mejabi Oluwasegun.
Referee James Amadin wasted no time to point to the spot as penalty for Kogi United.
Captain Abiodun Afolabi stepped forward and sent keeper Olanipekun Adedayo to wrong side and level up for Confluence boys and allowed to match to be decided on penalties.
It was Sheshere who caught two of Ekiti United's spot kicks after both sides had shown qualities to ensured Kogi United make it to the next round of the oldest cup competition in the country.
