Chairman of Kogi United, Abdul Sule has praised his charges for their victory over Ekiti United in the round 64 of the 2016 Federation Cup.
The Lokoja-based outfit forced the darling team of Ekiti to a one-all draw at the end of 90 minutes, before winning 4-3 on penalties at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium on Wednesday.
''It was a good game. The boys fought from the first minute till the end. The most important thing is that we won,'' the former Stationary Stores utility player said in a chat with reporters on Friday morning.
''Ekiti United gave us a good fight. The game showed fans that there are no underdogs in the game of football. We are happy with the result,'' he continued.
Kogi United will face Wikki Tourists in the round of 32 of the Federation Cup.
''Playing against Wikki Tourists will give us a tough challenge. We won't be overshadowed by them. Don't forget that we have played them before in the Nigeria National League. The game will give us the chance to prove ourselves against a tough opposition.''
The former Super Eagles star expressed confidence in his wards' chances in the 2015/16 Nigeria National League season due to get underway this weekend.
''We are at home to Shekarau Babes in front of our fans. We want to start on a good footing and that is by winning. The club needs the support of the fans to strive higher in the new campaign. We won't disappoint the trust of soccer loving Kogites.''
Abdul Sule praised Governor Yahaya Bello for his tremendous support to Kogi United and Confluence Queens.
''Despite the current economic situation in the country, our soccer loving number one citizen in Kogi State, His Excellency Yahaya Bello has always supported our programmes. He has been supportive and understanding. We want to show our gratitude to him by saying ''Thank You''.
He added by congratulating Confluence Queens on their 1-1 draw against Sunshine Queens in the match day one of the Nigeria Women Premier League last weekend.
''The girls made me proud. They were fearless in Akure. It is a reflection of the fantastic technical crew that they have. I don't want them to relent. They need to win in their week two match against Adamawa Queens.''
