Rivers United duo, Nzube Anaezemba and Gabriel Wassa have both insisted that the ‘Pride of Rivers’ can improve despite winning their opening Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) contest at home to El Kanemi Warriors on Sunday.
Guy Kuemian and Emeka Ogbugh struck either side of half time to render Bello Kofarmata’s strike academic as the Port Harcourt club began their league campaign on a positive note.
Despite claiming maximum points, Anaezemba and Wassa both reached a consensus that improvements are still required for the team to reach its full potential.
“We played well against El Kanemi but we made some mistakes which accounted for our failure to score more goals.
“We will however continue working harder so we can achieve the objectives we have set for ourselves this season,” Anaezemba told the club’s official website, www.riversunitedfc.com.ng.
Wassa on his part called for the improvements to be made in brisk fashion.
“It was not a perfect performance (versus El Kanemi) and the goal we conceded really hurt us as we wanted a clean sheet.
“It is still early though as Sunday’s game was our first of the season.
“We must improve quickly because many teams will want to beat us and only hard work will see us succeed,” he said.
United travel to Uyo on Wednesday to face Akwa United in their second league game of the season.
