Ten man IfeanyiUbah beat Rangers to lift Charity Cup


FC IfeanyiUbah emerged winners of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF organized Charity Cup beating Rangers Int'l 4-3 on penalties on Wednesday.

Prince Aggreh converted the decisive spot kick for Anambra Warriors after both sides have played a goalless situation in the normal duration in an interesting match played at the National Stadium Abuja.

Rangers dominated almost entire proceedings in the first half despite playing against IfeanyiUbah who had to end the first stanza with ten men after a red card issued to Kojo Baah for his second bookable offense.

The Anambra Warriors came out with a renewed energy and purpose in the second half and quickly took over the entire control of the game including the spectators who had the Minister of Sports, Barrister Solomon Dalung, the chairman Senate Committe on Sports, Chief Obinna Ogba in attendance with Rangers playing a second fiddle.

Prince Aggreh, Jimoh Oni and Tamen Medrano missed a glitch edged chances for IfeanyiUbah in different occasion and Rangers had to thank goalkeeper Nana Bonsu for his one hand safe to deny Aggreh from another scoring chance.

The penalty shootout began with wonderful kicks as goalkeepers were left to be ordinary as Rangers converted their first three kicks and Medrano missing the second for IfeanyiUbah.

The duo of Chidiebere Okolie and Chiamaka Madu would missed the last two kick for the NPFL champions making Aggreh's kick a decisive and winning penalty for the Fed Cup Champions.

President of the Nigerian representatives in this year's CAF Confederation Cup, Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah said the victory was a reflection of his team's readiness for the new football season adding that the Anambra Warriors would surprised all with their football artistry this term.

IfeanyiUbah will be guest to Kano Pillars in the NPFL season opener on Saturday while Rangers Int'l will begin their title defense on Sunday when they take in Abia Warriors in an oriental derby at the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium, Enugu.
