Idah Secondary Commercial College Marks 50 Years of Excellence


 

The Alumni Association of Idah Secondary Commercial College is thrilled to invite all old and continuing students, as well as the general public, to their 50th-year anniversary celebration. 


According to a statement by the Chairman, Media Sub-Committee and PRO of the Alumni Mr Godwin Egbunu, this milestone event promises to be an unforgettable experience, filled with nostalgia, gratitude, and joy.


The celebration kicks off on Friday, December 27th, 2024, with a special Jumma’at prayer at the Idah Central Mosque, Kogi State. 


This solemn occasion will mark the beginning of the golden jubilee festivities.


On Sunday, December 29th, 2024, an interdenominational thanksgiving worship service will be held at the College Dining Hall, located on Idah-Odolu-Nsuka Road, Idah. The service will commence at 10:00 am prompt.


In the evening of the same day, exciting activities have been lined up, including a novelty football match between old and continuing students at the College Football Field, starting at 4:00 pm prompt. 

This will be followed by a “Mates & Friends Sit Out” featuring barbecue, drinks, DJ music, comedy, and more.


The grand finale of the celebration will take place on Monday, December 30th, 2024, with an Annual General Meeting (AGM) at 8:30 am prompt. 

This will be followed by a Grand Reunion Awards Luncheon, goodwill messages, photographs, and other exciting activities. Don’t miss this epoch-making event!

Kogi State hosts FOSLA U-13 Scholarship Football Tournament

 




The 12th edition of the FOSLA U-13 football tournament will hold on Saturday January 1st in Idah, Kogi state. 


The tournament which is sponsored by the former NFF President Alhaji Sani Lulu Abdullahi is aimed at picking players who are naturally endowed in the 9 local government areas of Kogi East and Lokoja. 


According to the organizers of the tournament, ,the 9 local governments and Fuji academy from Lokoja who are participating in the tournament are to arrive  Idah on the 31st of December 2021 for Screening and draws at 7am prompt


They said the tournament will starts immediately after the screening and draws at the Federal Polytechnic Sports Complex by 9am. 


Explaining further on the modalities of the tournament, the Team Manager of Fosla Academy, Malam Ibrahim Lawal said the four semi finalists in the last edition will be seeded to the quarter finals, while two others will play to join them, with another two selected on lots. He named the teams that will seeded to include Dekina LGA, Omala LGA, Ankpa LGA and the defending champions, Idah LGA. 


He said accommodation has been arranged for participating teams at the popular FOSLA hotel close to The Federal polytechnic Idah.


This year's tournament is a Special Edition in honour of the newly crowned and installed paramount ruler of Igala Kingdom *His Royal Majesty Dr Matthew Alaji Opaluwa.* 


In another development, the Board Secretary of Fosla Academy Patrick Ngwaogu (Odogwu Ndi Abia) has reminded the participanting teams that the tournament is aimed at aimed at supporting the indigent students who are eager to combine academics with football. He said only players  who are within the age limit of 13 years is eligible to participate. "That's children born not later than December 31, 2008 and in Primary six". 


" Fosla Scholarship program is specifically for children who are naturally endowed in the game of football but whose parents can not afford the luxury of supporting them to combine it with education. Selected players will enjoy the academic scholarship up to the University level " the former FCT FA Vice Chairman concluded.

Traditional ruler, CMD extol Governor Bello over upgrading of Idah Zonal Hospital after 100 years of neglect

 A Traditional ruler, the Eje of Ofu,  HRM, Alhaji A'ku Obaje, on Thursday commended Governor Yahaya Bello (GYB) of Kogi for rehabilitating and upgrading the ancient Idah Zonal Hospital, abandoned for about 100 years by successive administrations.


Obaje made the commendation when the Forum of Special Advisers to GYB, paid a courtesy visit to the paramount ruler in Ofu, in continuation of ''GYB Legacy Projects’ Tour” to the Eastern senatorial district of the state.


The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the forum had recently inspected some executed and ongoing projects across Kogi Central, and Kabba in Kogi West, aimed at projecting the governor's unprecedented achievements in infrastructures to the world.

 

Obaje, who is the Chairman Traditional Council of Ofu Local Government Area, eulogised the governor for executing legacy projects in the zone, saying ''I was born in 1960 and never has any governor developed Igalaland like Yahaya Bello''.


The traditional ruler noted that the Idah Zonal Hospital was established around 1920 and had since been abandoned by successive Governors until the coming on board of GYB.


According to him, the hospital suffered neglect for almost hundred years but the intervention of GYB on the rehabilitation and upgrade has rekindled the hope of the people.


He stressed that the governor had made health care facility of that magnitude available to the people of Igalaland.


The royal father also commended GYB for rehabilitating the 56km Idah-Ajaka-Ugwolawo-Umomi-Ejule-Ofakaga-Ayingba Junction road, saying he had succeeded where his predecessors failed on road constructions and rehabilitations.


He said that the road rehabilitation had opened up business activities in four local government areas of the zone that had been dead for decades due to the deplorable state of the road.


He further thanked the governor for building a palace for the traditional institution of Ofu LGA saying that they never had a central palace until his intervention.


He added: ''I am proud to be the first traditional ruler to make use of the palace''. 


Obaje further said that the ''Operation Light Up Kogi East Project'' introduced and executed by GYB in providing power infrastructure to the zone, had given many villages in Igalaland and increased electricity supply from the incessant three to more than six hours daily.


''Let the Governor come and commission electricity, roads, hospitals and palaces built in Igalaland. He has achieved so much in Igalaland in the last six years..


''The governor should not only build giant infrastructures but he should come down and commission them'', Obaje said.


Earlier, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters and son of the soil, Hon. Onogwu Patrick, described GYB as a detribalised leader whose developmental strides cut accross the entire 21 LGAs of the state. 


Patrick enjoined the people of the zone to pray for GYB to become the next President of Nigeria for the security, infrastructural and economic development of Nigeria.


The forum thereafter took a tour to the upgraded Idah Zonal hospital, where they were received by the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Dr Monday Audu, who commended the forum for the tour.


Audu noted that the current level of upgrade in the ancient hospital was the kind he had never witnessed since he began practicing as a medical practitioner.


He appreciated the governor for being mindful of the health of the people of Kogi east which informed the upgrade of the once abandoned medical facility for many decades.


Audu added that the upgrade had provided greater access to good medicare for the people of Ibaji, Idah, Igalamela/Odolu and Ofu Local Government Areas, adding that the hospital had started receiving upsurge of patients more than ever.


The Special Adviser on Health Matters, Pharm. Clement Hamidu, said Kogi Government upgraded the hospital with intention to guarantee quality healthcare facility and professionals that would prioritise the wellness and health of the people especially at the grassroots.


Hamidu commended the governor for making healthcare delivery topmost agenda and his passion about making healthcare available to even the rural dwellers.


Earlier, the Chairman of Idah Local government, Hon. Abuh Odoma, commended the forum for counting it worthy to visit each local government to monitor GYB legacy projects and reporting same to the public, 


Odoma expressed joy that such a gigantic hospital  upgrade was happening during his tenure as Chairman and thanked the governor for making him a proud Chairman with legacy projects to show his people. 


The chairman said that security challenges had been resolved in the local government such that residents could now sleep without fear of attack or kidnap, and assured the forum of their safety during the tour in the area.

Igala Nations Cup: All Stars sees off Ankpa United to book semi final berth

 


The first quarterfinals clash of the 5th edition of one of the most prestigious soccer tournament in North central Nigeria between All Stars football Club of Anyigba and Ankpa United at the famous Qua-Iboe Primary School field Idah ended 5-4 on penalties after an entertaining and interesting 90 minutes in favour of Ankpa United.


Both team having overcame other teams in their various groups to qualify for the last 8 started the afternoon well with free flow of football and a highly technical game as they both launch all available arsenal to ensure they outwit and outdo each other. 


Isah Abubakar of Ankpa United scored from the penalty spot in the 41st minute just minutes to the end of the first half to put Ankpa United ahead after an Ankpa United player was violently hacked down in the 18 yard box.


The second half of the encounter saw some quality changes effected by both teams to beef up and add more firepower.While Ankpa where more defensive because of their lone goal lead,All Stars were more persistent and ferocious in their opponent's half.


No positive result came the way of both teams until the 71st minute when Achimugu Favour of All Stars fc took advantage of a faulty clear our to score and bring his team on level terms.


Both teams increase their drive for more goals as the clock ticks away gradually.Hillary Kelechi another revelation of the 5th edition of the annual tournament got an opportunity from a pass and he wasted no time in sending the ball right into the net to the admiration of the Anyigba soccer fans who came in their numbers to cheer their team to victory.


Just when it seems the Anyigba boys were almost running away with the lead,Isah Abubakar returned them back into contention in the extra added minutes with a powerful shot to make it a brace for himself and to ensure Ankpa remain in the game.


The match went straight into penalty shootout to determine who will be the first team to comfortably go through to the semi-finals and at the end of the shootout,All Stars fc overcame a highly spirited Ankpa United fc 5-4.


Both coach after the clash said penalty is a game of luck and as such can swing to any side and that's what happened.It went the way of All Stars fc and we congratulate them on this feat achieved said Coach of Ankpa United fc.He however promised that his team will be back big,better and well equipped technically and tactically in the next edition.


Seyedi football Club of Anyigba will on 14th September 2021 battle Royal football Club of Ankpa for a spot in the last four of the competition at Qua- Iboe primary school field Isah in another mouth watering quarter-final encounter.
