ODODO/OGBO: THE COMBINATION OF HOPE AND OPTIMISM FOR A MORE PROSPEROUS KOGI STATE

As Kogi State Governorship Election slated for November this year draws nearer, waiting for the appropriate time the Independent National Electoral commission (INEC) will give directives on campaign activities, the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag bearer and his clamoured running mate have continued to consult and reassure Kogites of their collective responsibility in building 'NewKogi' devoid of religious and parochial ethnic sentiments.

This is in view of the obvious fact that social media feelers have continued to maintain that Honorable Ahmed Usman Ododo's ticket with Dr. Salisu Ogbo Usman would no doubt, be centred on developmental issues of economy, access to health and education, plans for industrialization, security, jobs, reformation of decaying ethical and social values, political accountability and all inclusiveness.

For some, the combination is a rebirth of a greater patriotism, tolerance, maturity and political accommodation which will be necessarily sustained as exhibited by political leaders of the Independence era, who despite youthful ages resolved complex divisive issues in the state's interest by working out political compromises.

Behold, the promise of 'NewKogi' with personalities of unquestionable characters, track records, impact and of course competence, readiness and commitment towards consolidating on the gains and achievements of Governor Yahaya Bello blueprint.

The future of Our dear Kogi State is brighter than bleaker, but we need to get some things under control, and it must be NOW!

Think Ododo and Ogbo ticket for a #NewKogi

PDP's loss in Kwara poll, signs of nemesis - APC chieftain

A chieftain of All Progressive Congress (APC), Kwara chapter, Alhaji Kayode Adams fondly called Cooler has said nemesis is catching up with Kwara PDP as it is evident that a greater percentage of the Kwara electorates are tired of the Saraki political egemony as displayed during the last Presidential and National Assembly elections, where their candidates were randomly and resoundingly defeated by the APC.

In this interview with our Editor, the Ebodaniyan born politician said re-electing Mall.  AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq would consolidate the numerous achievements witnesses in the last four years, saying the governor has the capacity and track record to do more.

Adams added that there is no basis for comparism between AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq's led government with the 16 years prodigy and arrogant reign of Bukola Saraki's administration in kwara,  alluding to the fact that the governor has brought back the lost glory of kwara schools that were left shattered by the immediate past administration. Exercpts:

How was growing up as a child looks like?

I hail from Ilorin here. My mother is from Ile-koto compound very close to Ode-AfaNda. My parents are from the same compound.

I attended Karumon Primary School and later to Ilorin Grammar School between 1974 -79. I had a certificate in Marketing from Kwara Tech. Along the lines,  I left Nigeria to overseas where I interfaces with different nationalities.

I voyaged into politics during the 1983 elections.  I was one of the pioneer founder of Alanamu club with the likes of Sa'adu Koroagba,  Ibrahim and Muyi Ikolaba. From there we priducded a councillor then called Alege amongst  others in 1983.

In 2002, I joined the administration of late Alabi Lawal, but I later opted out of his government as a result of persistent violence that marred his administration. When Bukola Saraki came,  I was part of the people that midwived him to power.

Our thought then was that with his high sense of exposure,  he would bring speedy development to Kwara State,  but he failed us. His father,  the late Dr.  Olusola Saraki was a good person.  In fact he was a good friend to my late father. It was the father of this present governor,  late AGF that brought Dr.  Olusola Saraki to Ilorin in 1962.

I know this because my father was a personal assistant to AGF then alongside late Babatunde Alanamu.  Late Dr.  Saraki did well throughout his political reigns.  Our thoughts over Bukola was that he would do more than what his Dad did. We all supported him wholeheartedly,  but he was too self-centered. He is too rude and disrespectful. He has no regards for the elderly. Bukola Saraki turned most of our youths into thug.

As a grassroots politician,  how would you rate the present administration relatively to the past administration in kwara state?

There absolutely nothing to compare.  The four years in the helms of affair of Mall.  AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq with the 16 years of the immediate past administration is pole part to each others. Those capital projects they errousneously laid claim on are federal government interventions.

There was no any indigenous schools that felt their impacts. We had bad roads across the state.  Their government lacks inclusivity. They rotated appointment within their cycles and clusters on like this present administration that always  sought for best brains.

There is no any local governments area today in kwara that you will not see the impacts of Gov.  AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq led government.  He has brought back the lost glory of kwara schools that were left shattered by the previous government. It was under this present administration that a student won an award for the state from Canada. This is so as a result of his giant stride in educational section.

Mall.  AbdulRahman AbulRazaq is a benevolent par excellence.  He came up with lots of credits facility intervention for kwara traders. He has impacted positively all kwara marketers.  Go to Ipata markets. Go to Gbugbu market you will see his marks.

The governor at no time exercises a dominearing leadership style over the people of kwara,  rather he see himself as a servant. But the immediate past government in kwara almost equate themselves with God. They are grossly prodigal and arrogant. They will awards contract without cash backing.

Look at the Aviation College, the aircraft they procure during their time was resold to one person called Atunwa,  who was a one time taxi driver in London. He refurbished it and sold it back to the same government. They are too fraudulent. They amputated civil servants salaries throughout their period.

AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq paid salary of workers as at when due.  It is sadedned to hear the past prodigal government saying 'Otisuwa'.  If they are tired of this government, they should commit suicide.

How ready are the people of this your community(Lao) to re-elect Gov.  AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq?

I bought this land since 1989 and I met the community not well organised. They made me their leader and the community has witnessed speedy growth as you can see by yourself. I brought a polling unit to the community and that is why in the presidential elections they voted massively for Tinubu and APC.

I have brought lots of incentive packages for the community that cuts across widows,  artisan and the less privileged ones under the auspies of this government.

Myself and the governor are from the same family and he has not disappointed us.  And that is why I am supporting him.

The last elections saw Kwara PDP lost woefully at the poll.  Is this a pointer to final exit of the party in kwara?

Yes.  I want to belives that nemesis has caught up with kwara PDP.  All these are happening as a result of the continuation of progressive style of leadership of late AGF to which the governor imbibes.

Our core job in Ilorin before now was weeving and the late AGF in his futuristic minded set established Government Secondary school,  Adeta. The governor also took after his late father in term of living a lasting legacy for future generations. It was on this his track record that led to the collapse of kwara PDP in the presidential and National Assembly elections.

The people of kwara state have seen the changes. They have seen that PDP have no good plans for them. You can see how our tradition rulers unanimously support the governor.  Our traditional rulers in their wisdom advised Bukola Saraki to let the incubent governor has his share of two terms,  he revolted.

He went around saying he would alter  the hierarchy of the age-longed norms of our traditional institutions.  He is most he do politics.  He should leave kwarans alone and go back to his medical callings. So the fits of Kwara APC at the last polls was as a result of exponential achievements of Mall.  AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

We noticed that many opposition parties in the state  are decamping to APC,  what is the secrete?

There is no any secrets about it at all.  I think they have all learnt from their mistakes. They have know the truth and the truth has begun to set them free.  They have decided to go back to their vomit after seeing that their bigotry tendency against the governor has failed them.

It is the pure heartiness of Mall.  AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq that makes them to come back.  God has vindicated the governor.

Tell us some of Gov.  AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq's achievements in the state

Tsaragi township road I did it.  Guanara road along Laina road.  The Governor has constructed over 127 roads across the state. He did over 500 interlocking roads. All schools across the state have been refurbished.

All basic heath centre got equipments . Over 165 hospitals have been refurbished.  Boreholes just to mention but few.  All our traditional rulers are happy with the governor.

If you look back down the line how God has led you through the journey of life,  are you fulfilled?

Yes,  I am fulfilled! Allah has been so magnanimous to me.  I'm not over ambitious, am contented with what God has done for me.

What is your appeal to the people of Kwara on the need for them to troop out next Saturday to vote Mall.  AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and APC.

Kwarans have known the truth and they will never go back to Egypt. They shouldn't vote for the opposition.  They have nothing for them. The people of Kwara state should in the same manner they did at the presidential poll vote massively for Mall.  AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and all the APC candidates.

As we reflect on the just concluded elections, it is important to highlight the critical role played by Dr. Salisu Ogbo Usman. Dr. Ogbo's leadership and impact on his community has been nothing short of remarkable. He is a man who truly embodies the values of good governance, empathy, and service to the people.

When Dr. Ogbo campaigned tirelessly for the re-election bid of Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello, his message was simple: Governor Bello listens to us, and if we work for his re-election, we will be in a position to demand a role in governance. Dr. Ogbo promised to create job opportunities for the people of Ankpa, and he has kept his word.

Since then, Dr. Ogbo has continued to serve as a champion for the people of Ankpa and Kogi State at large. His sterling performance, unending attribution of his successes to the governor and all those who helped him throughout his life (which shows how grateful he is), facilitating employment opportunities for youths, and philanthropy have endeared him to the people and brought many closer to government.

Dr. Ogbo's leadership skills and inclusive approach to governance have been critical to his success. He understands that leadership is not about dictating from above, but about listening to the people and working together to achieve common goals. By being closer to the people, humble, good, kind, and performing excellently, he has gained the trust and respect of the people in Ankpa and beyond.

In the just concluded elections, Dr. Ogbo's influence was felt more than ever before. Though he was not on the ballot, he played a crucial role in gathering support for the candidates of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Ankpa and beyond. He rallied his community behind the APC, and his efforts paid off as the party recorded significant gains in the area.

Dr. Ogbo's impact on the elections is a testament to the power of good governance and effective leadership. By prioritizing the needs of the people and working tirelessly to meet them, he has earned their trust and become a beacon of hope for many. His achievements in Kogi State Polytechnic serve as a model for other leaders to emulate, and we can only hope that his legacy will inspire many more like him to serve the people with dedication and humility.

Dr. Salisu Ogbo Usman: A quintessential leader who cares enough to put others first

The good  people of Ankpa recently witnessed an outstanding story of selflessness and service to the community, and it revolved around Dr Salisu Ogbo Usman, who recently gave his best and put himself in a position to benefit his people in the area.

Dr. Usman is an exemplary leader, who has done considerable work in the community and is respected for his commitment to give back to the society.

He recently delivered the four polling units around his community for the All Progress Congress (APC). This move was lauded for its positive impact in the community and showed his dedication to ensuring a better future for everyone living in Kogi State.

The work Dr. Usman did to make sure his people voted for the APC in the election is commendable. He worked day and night to ensure that he was able to gain the trust of the people and earn their votes.

He organized meetings, participated in debates and had rallies to discuss the importance of voting.

The OmaOja Ata Igala also took charge of the ‘get-out-the vote’ drive, where he juggled his resources and skills to ensure that all the eligible voters in his community go out and cast their votes in the election.

Dr. Usman's work indicates that leaders should not just be focused on personal gains but should also keep in mind the interest of the people they serve.

His story is a lesson to both leaders and the general public that when given the platform to serve the people, people should always give the best of themselves. It is important to always serve the people in order to be served when needed.

His story also serves as an example of what happens when someone cares enough to put others first.

We need more leaders just like Dr. Usman - kind-hearted and God-fearing human beings - in the political arena in Kogi State.

When you do good, you don't need to struggle for good in return. God bless sir. Kooloo!

We are back to sites for timely delivery of projects - Kogi Works Commissioner

The Kogi State Commissioner for Works and Housing,  Engr Abubakar Sadiku Ohere has said all Contractors handling Kogi State Government projects are since back to sites immediately after the festivities to continue with the infrastructural revolution going on in the state in order to ensure timely delivery of projects.

Engr. Ohere made this known while inspecting some of the ongoing projects in the State Capital of Lokoja, saying Governor Yahaya Bello had given him a marching order to ensure timely delivery of all ongoing projects.

“As you can see, all our Contractors are back to their various sites for vigorous work to ensure timely deliver of these projects to the people.

“You would recall that at the beginning of 2021 when many states were lamenting the devastating effects of Covid-19 on their economy, the Governor released billions of naira for life-touching and economic revamping capital projects.

“While many see 2022 as a year of politics, the Governor has already directed us to go back to site to continue to work so that our people can begin to reap the fruits of what we have been laboring for over the past few years and months”.

Engr Ohere said some of the strategic road projects within Lokoja will help decongest traffic in the State Capital which is one of the fastest growing cities in the world.

He further disclosed that his Ministry has put in place, a strategy that  would bring about quick delivery of the projects and assured that the quality of works would not be compromised as the people of the State are used to the GYB standard.

He urged the contractors not to compromise the GYB standard, adding that his Ministry would continue to monitor all projects regularly and thoroughly to ensure people have value for money spent on those projects.

“We are doing many projects at the same time, with the same speed, with the GYB standard as our people deserve the best. As a Government,  we will never compromise quality”, he assured.

Some of the road projects  visited were Maigari Palace to Old Central Mosque roundabout; Fem Hotel/GTbank junction to Kogi Circle and NTA roundabout and NTA roundabout to Post Office and  Marine Road(MoW/H) "Jakura" end of the road.

Others are Stella Obasanjo Library /Government House/Kogi Hotels; and GTBank Junction/Hydro Junction/Post Office and Cemetery Road Junction.

Similarly drainages from all these roads up to INEC road are receiving prompt attention to keep them ready and adequate before the rains.

The Commissioner for Works also told newsmen that contractors are working day and night to deliver the roads, hospitals and schools under construction across the state.

“We have completed a good number of roads and other infrastructure that are already in use. Other massive ones are the Reference Hospital and other Model Hospitals and Schools that we are building across the three Senatorial Districts.

“We are very satisfied and excited that these projects are already taking shape now. They are the signature projects that will separate this administration from others before it.

“Apart from the fair distribution of the projects, GYB has remained faithful to his development blueprint. In the next couple of months, we shall witness a festival of project commissioning across the length and breadth of Kogi State”.

In the same vein, some indigenes of Lokoja have expressed excitement over the road projects in the State Capital.

Adejoh Gabriel, a trader who resides in Lokoja said he has been impressed with the ongoing road projects in Lokoja.

“I am from Ankpa and am quite familiar with the road projects of this administration. We thank them for constructing the Ankpa Township Roads. I also know they have done quite a number of roads in Igalaland.

“Our concern has been the Lokoja Township Roads. The Governor seemed to be more concerned about the rural roads. But we are now seeing a great difference. The road in my area is now very good and I want to say thank you to the Governor”.

An Adankolo resident in Lokoja, Oloruntomi Abiodun told our correspondents that he is impressed with the ongoing construction of a magnificent edifice at Government Day Secondary School, Adankolo.

“I have never seen such before. This is a clear statement that Yahaya  Bello is capable of giving us good things that we have never seen before. With the way they are working there, it will be delivered very soon”.

We won’t vote any old man as President in 2023, Youth4Youth Movement Reacts to Tinubu’s Declaration

By Tyna Andrew

Nigeria youths have restated their commitment to ensure that they are ruled and governed by a viable, agile, visionary and youthful president, who is in tune with their challenges and ready to face it head on.

A political pressure group, Youth4Youth Movement who made the declaration also called on Nigerians to give the youth of the country a chance to govern the nation in 2023.

The group in a statement signed by its Director of Communications  Comrade Timiprye Sam,  said Nigeria cannot continue to recycle old leaders and expect a change in fortune, insisting that 2023 is the year of the youth.

Timiprye said the Group is made up of members of different political parties, urging all parties to consider candidates below the age of 50 for the Presidency.

“We boast of members from all political parties,  especially APC, PDP and APGA. We are not interested in partisan fanaticism in 2023. We will only vote for a party that produces candidates below the age of 50, especially for the Presidency as we are ready to change our fate.

“We have enlisted over 7 million youth across the nation and we have continued to get the buy-in of youths to key into the Youth4Youth project.

“Out of frustration, the youth are the ones recruited into crimes and violence. The youth are the ones suffering the lack of economic prosperity and lack of jobs. The youth are the worst hit when there is bad governance.

“Therefore, it is time we take our destinies to our own hands and elect an informed, dynamic, pragmatic and energetic young man or woman to lead our nation to prosperity”.

On the recent declaration of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for Presidency, the group said it is a “disservice to the millions of Nigerian youth”.

“Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a man we respect so much and we never expect would come out to deny the youth their chance in 2023. But that is democracy. It is now the responsibility of all Nigerian youth to reject gerontocracy.

“The old people brought us to this level, the youth should be given the chance to clean their mess. President Muhammadu Buhari might have gotten wind of BAT’s declaration before he met him, reason the President complained about the toll governance is taking on him. He was probably passing  a strong message to Tinubu.

“Presidency is not for the old, ailing people. It is for those who can work 24 hours a day. Tinubu doesn’t fit into that bill and should therefore rescind his decision”.

Youth4Youth Movement expressed gratitude to visionary youths across the country for speaking with one voice for in a long time, saying President Muhammadu Buhari is a hero for signing the Not-Too-Young-To-Run Bill into Law.

The group reiterated that as the engine room for national growth and development, the youths will not fold their hands and watch the elders toy with their future by imposing and old candidate on them come 2023.

Gov. Bello's enabling environment, helping Engr. Ohere drive Kogi's infrastructure revolution

By Abu Micheal

A drive round the capital city of Lokoja, is a marvel, as one begin to wonder why the heavy construction is still going even during the yuletide, when in the States of the Federation, Government and Construction Companies have gone on long break.

Without mincing words, Gov. Yahaya Bello seems to have increased the steam, firing from all sides of the cylinder, as virtually all township roads in the State capital has come under the heavy weight and presence of machines and bulldozers of construction companies.

The resumption of work on the construction and rehabilitation of Lokoja township roads is certainly a fulfilment of Gov. Yahaya Bello as he has repeatedly promised to make his second term in office better than the first.

With so much achievements and impact made thus far on the infrastructure development of Lokoja metropolis, with same being equally replicated in the other local government areas of the State, makes people wonder, but with praises that Gov. Bello is no doubt working for posterity.

Amidst paucity of funds, a heavy wage bill of workers, with salaries paid till date to contend with, one man who seems to have the magic wand, actualizing the Governor's transformation blueprint in Infrastructure, making things happen in whatever Sector he finds himself is Engr Abubakar Ohere, Kogi State Commissioner for Works and Housing.

On assumption of office, Gov. Bello described the Commissioner as a man who can fit into any Ministry and place he finds himself. Then the governor was commending him for the outstanding performances made in the reconstruction of the SUBEB bridge that caved in.
