A governorship aspirant of the All
Progressives Congress in Kogi State, Suleiman Baba-Ali, says Kogi State
will not depend on allocation from the Federal Government to survive if
he is elected governor of the state.
Baba-Ali, in a statement on Wednesday,
said this while obtaining his expression of interest form at the APC
national secretariat.
The Kogi State governorship election
would be held on November 21. The collection of forms by the APC
aspirants ends on August 7.
Screening of aspirants would be done
between August 10 and 17, while the primary has been slated for August
29. There are over 20 APC aspirants jostling to replace Idris Wada of
the Peoples Democratic Party at the Lugard House in Lokoja on November
21.
The governorship aspirant said there was
no reason why the state should be categorised as poor in the midst of
plenty.
He said, “Any state government that
still depends on the Federal Government for survival,   in view of the
prevailing economy challenges, is not a serious state. Out of 34 mineral
resources classified by the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals as
revenue-yielding minerals, Kogi State has 22. Why is it then difficult
to harness all these potential into prosperity?”
Baba-Ali said there were business
entrepreneurs ready to invest in the state if the necessary atmosphere
was created.
“Investors will come, not because they
like your face, but because they believe that their businesses will
thrive when the atmosphere is conducive.”
“Kogi State civil service has a bloated
salary structure. Kogi State has also created a record by being a state
with fake schools. These leakages must be blocked for us to make the
desired change.”
Baba-Ali expressed optimism that he
would win the governorship election.
