Nigeria advanced to the AfroBasket quarter-finals for the 11th
consecutive tournament, while Senegal, Gabon and Algeria also progressed
 on Wednesday.
Portland Trail Blazers forward Al-Farouq Aminu top-scored for Nigeria
with 14 points, while Shane Lawal (10 points, 12 rebounds) notched a
double-double in his nation's 83-47 thumping of Mozambique.
Nigeria kept Mozambique to just eight points in the second quarter as
they opened up a 17-point advantage at half-time, while they outscored
the southern Africans 42-23 after the main break.
Having so regularly reached the AfroBasket's last-eight, Nigeria will
be desperate to maintain their momentum.
Nigeria have finished on the podium at Africa's premier basketball
tournament six times in the past 20 years but have never won AfroBasket
gold.
2013 bronze medallists Senegal joined William Voigt's Nigeria in the
quarter-finals via a 79-48 win over Uganda with Minnesota Timberwolves
centre Gorgui Dieng sinking 23 points and pulling down 17 rebounds for
the victors.
In other round of 16 results in Tunisia, Algeria edged past Cameroon
73-71 and Gabon overcame Cape Verde 77-67.
