Wambai charges sports enthusiasts to emulate Kanu's philanthropism


The Wambai Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero has described the humanitarian gestures of African Footballer of the Year Award Winner, Nwankwo Kanu as an enduring legacies, sportsmen and women in Nigeria should emulate.
Bayero who spoke when he received the duo of former Senegalese international and African footballer of the year winner, El-Hadji Diouf and Nwankwo Kanu in Kano as part of preparations for the forth coming Match4IDPs, said he was impressed by decision of the African legend to give back to the society through his philanthropic projects.
According him, if every Nigeria and Africa sportsmen and women who are successful in their various chosen career follow the path of the Nigerian 1996 Olympic gold medalist, the society will be better of, saying, "I followed Kanu from his playing days at home to Ajax, Inter Milan, Arsenal, West Bromwich Albion and Portsmouth, places he won honours and I must tell you as a Nigerian, I am proud of his feat.
"With your intention to join other Africa legends to play for the Internally Displaced persons in the North eastern part of the country, believe me though I love our darling team, Kano Pillars football club, I will support the Kanu led team to win the match," Wambai Kano said.

On his part, Kanu said that he is in love with the people of Kano, because of their overwhelming love for the game of football.

The game, according to him, though, is a friendly game,  the star studded legend side will  teach the former Nigeria league champions, some soccer lesson which may compel some clubs to ask for their signature once again.

Meanwhile the Chief Cordinator for Match4IDPs, Abi Goodman said arrangements were in top gear to ensure a successful programme which will benefit the Internally Displaced Persons and deworming of children.

Goodman hinted that apart from tickets for the match, fans can also gain access into the stadium by  buying a scratch card which the organisers have designed through online system as they win.
