That the Kogi State High Court judge, Justice Samuel Obayomi, kidnapped by gunmen on May 25, has been freed is no longer news, but the motive behind the abduction has continued to raise dust. While some people believe that the saga is one of the abductions that have became a regular feature of the state in recent times, others think it has community and duty connection.

Kogi has come alive again. Political activities have peaked ahead of the governorship election in the state. An array of aspirants has indicated interest to contest for the diadem on the platform of different political parties over the past weeks. The All Progressives Congress (APC) is leading the pack, with 15 aspirants throwing their hats in the race for Lugard House. Analysts posit that the number is likely to increase as the contest date draws closer.

I was particularly elated the moment the Nigerian Television Authority announced in its 9pm news on July 10th, 2015 that the election in Kogi State would be held on November 21st. The first thing that came to my mind was, “Wada is gone”. I hold no personal hatred for Wada or envy his position as a governor. But I have a great aversion for people who do not use political power to the people’s expectations. That is where Mr Wada and I fall apart.

Match Referees in the rescheduled Match Day 7 fixture between Shooting Stars of Ibadan and Warri Wolves have been charged before the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Referees’ Commission for their role in the conduct of the match which has been considered inimical to the good of the league.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed the governorship elections in Kogi and Bayelsa States on November 21and December 5 this year.

The electoral commission also fixed the commencement of political campaigns in Kogi state from July 24 to November 19 while in Bayelsa State political campaigns will start from September 6 to December 3.

This was disclosed on Friday in a public notice signed by the commissions Chairman, information and voter education committee, Dr. Chris Iyimoga, after the commission met on Thursday.
