NCF Trains Journalists on Cricket Reporting

The Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) staged a one-day media orientation seminar for sports writers at the Abuja National Stadium at the weekend to teach them the basics of cricket reporting.

While speaking at the opening ceremony of the seminar, President of the Federation Emeka Onyeama said the essence of the seminar was to teach journalists the rudiments of the game.

Onyeama, who was represented by a member of the NCF board, Kayode Adeniyi, said the first ever seminar for sports journalists was aimed at popularizing the game of cricket.

“Sometimes when cricket is discussed on the news, people do not understand it and the journalist as well may not have understood it.

“So, we saw it necessary to organise this seminar, which is also a way of making the game popular because we cannot do without the media,’’ Onyeama said.

The 30 participants, drawn from media organisations all over the country, were lectured on both the theoretical and practical aspects of the sport.

One of the participants, Joel Ajayi disclosed that the seminar was an eye opener, stressing that he could now report the game as an expert.
