Nigerian strikers, Victor Anichebe and Brown Ideye were impressive in West Brom’s 2-1 pre-season friendly win over Charleston on Friday.
Anichebe, who started the match alongside fit-again
Saido Berahino in the attack missed couple of chances early on the game.
Both would later combine well to open the score for
the Baggies in the 42nd minute after Anichebe’s make a neat one-two with
which the young England striker coolly buried.
The hosts enjoyed some good openings of their own
and duly pulled level just before the hour mark courtesy of Navion Boyd’s
sweeping finish from the edge of the penalty area.
Ideye came off the bench after replacing his Nigerian counterpart,
Anichebe in the restart and make their opponent’s defense work harder till the
end.
His well calculated run-ins was paid off after jumping over Charleston
defenders to head home Craig Gardner’s 82nd minute free kick.
Though Pulis has always stressing the need for
match fitness over victory as they hope to get on well when the season starts,
but defeats may not go down well with club faithful.
Pulis used a total of 19 players throughout the
encounter, Albion’s third of pre-season to date and first triumph following
defeats against Red Bull Salzburg and Orlando City – although the Baggies head
coach has always been keen to stress it is a case of match fitness over
results.
The friendly brings an end to Albion’s brief stay
in Charleston – where they have been given the warmest of welcomes – and the
Baggies now head to Richmond, Virginia for the final match of their three-game
tour.
