NBBF Elections: 'Nigerian basketball is bigger than any individual - Musa Kida

Chairman Caretaker Committee of Nigeria Basketball Federation NBBF Engr. Musa Kida has revealed that the game of basketball in Nigeria is bigger than any individual.

He reiterated that NBBF have constitution approved by the FIBA and only thing that can change it is Congress, which is ultimate body of NBBF

He stated this in Abuja on Wednesday shortly after the major stakeholders  meeting with the Minister of Youth and Sports Development.

Kida said that survival of basketball supercedes any personal interest.

According to him, this meeting was called at the instance of the Honourable Minister to get the various stakeholders on the same table to find ways which Basketball will have a rancor free elections and more importantly to him, assure the development of Basketball in Nigeria.

"What we came for was for the interest of Basketball and for the interest of all the stakeholders coming together to make Basketball work in Nigeria, and also conform with a larger picture that Basketball is bigger than individual" .

Continuing, Kida said "The result of it has been that there is a contention of whether the constitution would be used or not, based on the advice that the Honourable Minister has gotten from the NOC and and his legal team which he agreed to" .

"The constitution of NBBF is an approved constitution by FIBA, and it has been read at the floor of the congress. The NBBF does have a constitution, that is going to be the major document going forward.

"They also recommended that there are some parties who showed some worried over certain issues in the constitution and the Ministry believed this can be corrected quickly if they so agreed by the congress of NBBF which is sole approving body."

"Everyone was told to lodge whatever they believed is their complain, and there will be a 21 days of consultations and they will allow the NBBF congress to come and deliberate on those clauses, after which the NBBF elections will then be organized. This is a very sane way of taking a lot of people along in the development of the game in the country".

"Nigeria Basketball is much bigger than Musa Kida. I know I'm a stakeholder in this matter, when you talk about the present tense of Basketball, I will be counted among. But what I do think is bigger than Musa Kida. Basketball in Nigeria is bigger than Musa Kida, and Musa Kida must not be seen as a road block to such a very noble initiative to get all basketball families together, this will make our constitution good and everyone will do his job better. I will say that the greatest achievement is that we have a constitution and secondly that the constitution will be used to amend those things that needs to be improved upon. That will be the interest of Musa Kida as the Chairman Caretaker Committee of the NBBF " he concluded.

AlanSmith Nig Ltd Partners Ogunjobi Gold Cup

FIFA and CAF certified synthetic pitch installation firm, Alansmith Nigeria Limited has sealed a partnership deal with the organisers of the foremost pre-season tournament in Nigeria, the Ogunjobi Gold Cup.

Joshua Adamu, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Alansmith Nigeria Limited whose groundsmen will be providing technical support on Ebedei Stadium, one of the venues for this year's Ogunjobi Gold Cup, said they are delighted to tag with the tournament which has become a brand in Nigeria's domestic football.

Adamu hosted the Ogunjobi Gold Cup General Coordinator, Tunde Shamsudeen on a tour of the Ebedei Stadium facility on Tuesday in Sagamu.

According to Shamsudeen, while speaking with Gold Cup Media stated: "The partnership will be of immense benefit to the tourney."

Alansmith boss on his part said: "We're delighted to partner with Ogunjobi Gold Cup which over the years have proven to be the best pre-season tourney for domestic football teams in the country.

"Looking at the calibre of teams that have featured in the tourney, which cuts across the three tiers of our domestic league, Nigeria Professional Football League(NPFL), Nigeria National League(NNL) and Nationwide League One (NLO), shows how teams rate the tourney.

"We're a result-driven firm so we looking forward to a better partnership with the brand and Nigerian football as well."

Alansmith Nig Ltd Recommend FC Ebedei Pitch To Nigerian League Teams

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of FIFA and CAF certified synthetic pitch installation firm, Alansmith Nigeria Limited, Joshua Adamu, has recommended Nationwide League One side, FC Ebedei pitch to clubs in the Nigerian leagues.

The CEO who recently sealed a partnership deal with the organisers of Nigeria’s foremost pre-season tournament, the Ogunjobi Gold Cup explained why the artificial pitch is the best in Nigeria as against natural turfs.

"I have been through it and seen it all. For a fact, the reason why I opt for and recommend the synthetic pitches to clients is because of our maintenance culture, nature and type of people we are in Nigeria to be specific.

"Ask me why and I would tell you, we do not have a good number of turfs that can accommodate our football culture and the number of people playing the game.

"One natural turf, you have people train daily, morning and evening, play matches at weekends, host tournaments, friendly games and novelty matches on it, such a turf won't last the test of time.”

He added “Natural turfs are designed to host just Saturday matches, and not train on them like they do in Europe. But here in Nigeria, you have teams train on them daily and sadly cars drive on them during events like political rallies, concerts and others. That's why they don't last long.

"However,  it's only the artificial turfs that can withstand that pressure. Thankfully, the Federation of International Football Association(FIFA) has approved them, as all one has to do is to make sure that they meet standards and precision.”

Speaking on why he recommends the newly installed turf at the FC Ebedei Stadium in Sagamu to league sides in Nigeria, the CEO of Alansmith disclosed.

“The FIFA specified turfs we install on pitches in Nigeria were tested at LaboSports in Europe, we have specifications that allow for speed, ball bounce and ankle movement for players all tested and proven to be accurate.

“So if one maintains that standard, you won't have any problem differentiating between natural and artificial turf.

"In Europe, as we speak, countries with harsh or difficult weather like Russia or Eastern Europe use artificial turfs, so it's not only peculiar to Nigeria."

"The FC Ebedei brand is unique and personal to me, we had the project from start to finish in 120 days despite been installed during the rain period and of course the congestion at the seaport.

"The 60mm FIFA standard artificial turf, shock pad, and French drained pitch will allow the teams to have a good feel of the professional surface."

Youth/Sports Development: Sunday Dare holds tripartite talks with Algerian, Egyptian counterparts

Minister of youth and sports Development Mr Sunday Dare on Tuesday in Abuja held a Tripartite meeting with his counterparts from Algeria and Egypt on how to foster  mutual benefits.

The meeting formed part of activities marking the 40th anniversary of Association of National Olympic Committees in Africa (ANOCA) taking place in Abuja..

Speaking during  the meeting, Dare said, "when I visited Egypt some three months ago, we had a joint meeting where we reviewed youth and Sports Development of both countries and explored common areas  we can leverage on. We have spent the past few weeks trying  to see which  areas can be best explored.  We agreed that  he would either  come to Abuja or I would visit  Cairo. Gladly, he has come to Abuja and we want to warmly welcome him.

"It is also so important to welcome the Minister of Youth and Sports Development from Algeria who was the Chairman of the Anti Corruption War in Algeria, the equivalent of our  EFCC chairman before he became the Minister.

"The population of Youth in Africa, Nigeria, Algeria, Egypt is growing in leaps and bounds. These youth need to be engaged either by giving them employment, or by keeping them busy through sports and competition, providing them finance to start their own businesses or by simply ensuring that we give them the digital skills that they need. So, for youth development there are four critical areas; Digital Skills and Digital Literacy for the digital economy for the 24th century. How do we operate this aspect because we have that challenge and I am sure we will know  whether it's the same challenge.

"The youths are restless, if they are not engaged in productive activities, they go on riot, go into drug abuse and  other vices. We see sports as a  tool for unity and  tool to keep the youth busy. We believe that when a youth goes to practice wrestling in the morning,  does same  in the evening all he wants to do is to  eat dinner and sleep. But when he sits in the morning, 14 hours everyday doing nothing, he can be recruited for protest or recruited for  any kind of vices. Sports can be used  as a tool to promote peace and unity

"Also, there is the need to empower our youth,  give them  the finance and the resource they need to become self-employed, to become entrepreneurs and wealth creators.

"Government can no longer employ  all the youth. Government jobs are not available but the youth have  problems with banks to access loans where  the interest rate in this country is about 21-24% . In  Nigeria, we were able to establish the youth investment fund at an interest rate of 5% single digit, the lowest and we think that would help to turn our youths to entrepreneurs. I think these are the key major areas. I can provide another example when it comes to sports. It is important that we have inter-country tournament and championship beyond what we do in Nigeria, Egypt, Algeria and Morocco.  We can come together and organise a Volleyball Tournament,  or an Athletics Championship. It's  miniature skills but it's impactful.   In athletics, some points could be  gained and  ranking improved. We can even organize football matches; we just did a six  -Nation football  tournament which the FIFA  and  CAF presidents came. It had six top female  countries  in Africa  participate and it was an exciting time where  they  also got points for participating.

"Also, we can look at youth exchange, our youths love to travel, sadly some of them travel illegally. We can have them  make this travel legally and be  more impactful. We will design a youth exchange between our countries. From Egypt  and Algeria we may have  50 youths selected by Egyptian Ministy or the Algerian Ministry  have a program in  Nigeria which they will fit into, whether it is  a Sports event,  digital skill or entrepreneurship skills program. We can even start with 10 youth  for a  month exchange program. That was the practice in the past but it stopped. But  youths  in Algeria, Egypt and Nigeria want the same thing. They want  jobs,  capital to start  businesses, they want to build a career, they want government to support them and  set them on the path of progress. I think these are the critical areas we can work on. We will mention the programs that we have, but the MOU will look at the four critical areas. We  start to look at what program does Egypt, Algeria or Nigeria have in sports  that are alike and  design such programs as a module for the youth of our country.

In his response,  the  Algerian Youth and sports Minister Abderezak Sebagag said"I wish to thank the Minister of Youth and Sports Development from Nigeria and Egypt.

"Concerning the  developmental policy that we want to engage our youth in our respective countries, especially the aspect of improving their digital skills, we have a volunteer program in Algeria.

The Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Dr. Ashraf Sobhi also affirmed

"We as a Ministry, we will work as one country  in an effort to develop  youth and sports in Africa. With the scheme from  the Honourable Youth and Sports Minister from Nigeria , we can seek  how to work  together.

"We should use  our roles and positions as Ministers of youth and sports to  promote our vision and development.  If we work together,  our   development and  plans can become reality"

"We look at the sports part of the youth activities, we look at sports as a leisure,  as  recreation, as  competition and  tournament. Actually we have to look at Sports as a product to shield the youth from vices in their society. In Egypt, we have a full strategy merging  youth and sports. Basically we use  sports development to   aid education  till  2052.

"We are developing our premises, which means we are developing our facilities and sports facilities because without  good facilities we can't  actualize our plans  for the  future", he concluded.

Mr Gabriel Davies is the financier of the Ottasolo Pre-season Tournament. He is the Proprietor of Ottasolo International Football Club, a team that will participate in the Nigeria National League next season.

"We are good to go as far as organising this competition is concerned. Lagos is in good shape and the good people of Agege await with excitement the top clubs," Kola Daniel told Ottasola Media.

Lagos is a major national football hub, hosting big international football matches and competitions.

"Fans should be ready for good football at the Soccer Temple in this preseason competition. The invited teams all have quality players and with the conducive environment that Agege offers, this is a fantastic opportunity for good football," he added.
