ODODO/OGBO: THE COMBINATION OF HOPE AND OPTIMISM FOR A MORE PROSPEROUS KOGI STATE

As Kogi State Governorship Election slated for November this year draws nearer, waiting for the appropriate time the Independent National Electoral commission (INEC) will give directives on campaign activities, the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag bearer and his clamoured running mate have continued to consult and reassure Kogites of their collective responsibility in building 'NewKogi' devoid of religious and parochial ethnic sentiments.

This is in view of the obvious fact that social media feelers have continued to maintain that Honorable Ahmed Usman Ododo's ticket with Dr. Salisu Ogbo Usman would no doubt, be centred on developmental issues of economy, access to health and education, plans for industrialization, security, jobs, reformation of decaying ethical and social values, political accountability and all inclusiveness.

For some, the combination is a rebirth of a greater patriotism, tolerance, maturity and political accommodation which will be necessarily sustained as exhibited by political leaders of the Independence era, who despite youthful ages resolved complex divisive issues in the state's interest by working out political compromises.

Behold, the promise of 'NewKogi' with personalities of unquestionable characters, track records, impact and of course competence, readiness and commitment towards consolidating on the gains and achievements of Governor Yahaya Bello blueprint.

The future of Our dear Kogi State is brighter than bleaker, but we need to get some things under control, and it must be NOW!

Think Ododo and Ogbo ticket for a #NewKogi

Nationwide League One: A decade of growth, professionalization, opportunities

The Nigeria Nationwide League One (NLO) held a media briefing at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, on Wednesday April 26, 2023, to update sponsors, corporate organisations, and football stakeholders on its activities over the past decade.

The theme of the event was "2013-2022: A Decade of Growth," which celebrated the league's achievements over the past 10 years while highlighting its objectives and future plans.

The NLO is Nigeria's third-tier football league and in 2022 (the last year of the decade in question), had 344 clubs spread across the country's six geopolitical zones and the FCT. The league provides young Nigerians with an opportunity to develop their skills and reach their full potential while promoting community, respect, inclusivity, and growth.

With over 20,000 players, coaches, officials, and over 8,000,000 match-day attendance per season, the NLO represents a significant opportunity for businesses to achieve their objectives.

The NLO's primary objectives are to reposition the league as a key resource base for other local and international leagues, professionalize its operations, and generate interest from corporate organizations.

To achieve these objectives, the league has adopted a growth strategy anchored on good corporate governance, administration and management reforms, implementation of reforms in its season operations, and activation of strong brand-building initiatives.

According to Olushola Ogunnowo, NLO's Chief Operating Officer, "Our goal is to make NLO the access market for grassroots football in Nigeria and the youth football target market. We aim to produce the highest number of youths participating in the NLO at the grassroots level and continue to strive for and maintain official recognition of the Youth League from FIFA and increased interest from foreign clubs because of our Youth League."

Ms. Nkechi Obi, NLO’s Marketing Consultant over the past decade, emphasized the importance of NLO's success in becoming recognized as the access market for grassroots football in Nigeria. She stated that "NLO Product Consolidation is driven by deliberate brand optimization and value chain development, partnerships, and sustainable community engagement, as well as media activations and content creation." She also stated that full details of NLO’s 2023-2032 Decade of Consolidation will be made public at the Official Unveiling of NLO Partners and Season Activation Plans in May.

From 2023 Season, NLO will have only Two Divisions instead of three with Divisions II and III merged into the Youth League.

The new NLO will feature 420 Clubs, kicking off on May 3rd with a Season Opening Game to be played at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano and feature Kano Pillars Jnr against Kwankwasiya United FC in what promises to be a cracking game.

The NLO has made significant progress in achieving its objectives over the past decade, with the league becoming the highest exporter of talent to foreign leagues.

However, the league aims to do more, and with its growth strategy, it intends to professionalize its operations and generate more interest from corporate organizations.

NLO is committed to its primary objectives and its vision to provide young Nigerians with the opportunity to develop their skills and reach their full potential while promoting community, respect, inclusivity, and growth.

"Federation Cup presents Osun United a fair platform to make statements" - Seyi Ajayi

🔹as Osun FA Boosts Team's Morale

Hostility returns in the Nigeria's ancient competition, the Federations Cup as Osun Utd battle Nigeria National League side Katsina Utd in one of the Round 64 fixtures slated for tomorrow in Abuja.

Omoluabi Giants who hit the Federal Capital Territory with twenty 20 players and some officials are in right frame of mind to unlock tactical and physical obstacles as they eye a slot in the next round.

It was a similar fixture in September 2018 when Abdullahi Biffo led Katsina Utd dump out Duke Udi's Osun United, courtesy of Dominic Abah's late strike as 'Changi Boys' progressed to group stage.

In a swift reaction, after the light training at the match venue under the intense weather conditions, Osun Utd gaffer, Seye Ajayi is optimistic of turning in victory tomorrow.

"It's a different ball game tomorrow, I have prepared this side and they can challenge any teams in Nigeria, we as a team fear no foes.

"Psychologically, we are fit and ready for the duel, we are motivated. Many thanks to our sports loving governor who has been supporting us tremendously in every way, we pray he continues to support us as Osun Utd returns to where it belongs in no distant time." Coach Seye Ajayi, a former 3SC goal machine affirmed.

"You are known as 'Giant Killers' in the Federations Cup. Historically, you have done it before, therefore, go and reclaim your status, we are on ground to cheer you to victory, we are fully committed to your success. With the level of your preparation and dedication, you will move mountains". Those are the words of Osun FA supremo, Otunba Rasaq lshola Mustapha RIM., who's  represented in Abuja by a board member, Shola Fayoyinwa.

Believe And Achieve side who agonisingly lost 5-4 via penalties to Sunshine Stars last time out in lkenne, after a barren scoreline at regulation time will lock horns with impressive Katsina Utd at Area 3 pitch tomorrow by 2pm as the winner of the tie progresses to Round 32.

Opinion: NRA elections in search of NFF's neutrality

I was still  trying to understand the games being played by some Football Associations (FA) chairmen in a bid to remain in office while some government officials have usurped the role of FA chairmen in a bid to put their stooges in office, in the process of still trying to come to terms with  the whole scenario only for me to hear about the  removal  of Edo State  FA chairman with few days to election

However, what is more painful is the silence of Nigeria's football arbiter, the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF on the whole issue. While trying to wrap my head around the conundrum, I  received a text message from an unknown number of joint zonal meeting of Nigeria Referees  Association reportedly called by NFF President, Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau.

The notice reads: "I have been directed to inform all the councils' Chairmen and Secretaries that the joint meeting of the North Central, North East and North West of NRA has been scheduled as follows:

1. Venue of the meeting: R and K hotel, Magajin Rumfa Road, Opposite DSTV Office, Nasarawa, GRA, Kano.

2. Date of arrival/Meeting: 24th April, 2023

3. Date of departure: 25th April, 2023.

SGD: Omale Clement O. (Zonal Sec)

For: Zonal Coordinator"

On face value, there is nothing wrong with the northern block calling for a meeting especially with NRA election ahead. But what baffles me was the  name of NFF President, Ibrahim Gusau being mentioned in that breath and being reported to have called for the meeting; paid for accommodation and flight tickets of participants  in a bid to sway votes for his annointed candidate, Sani Zubairu.

Is the NFF President only for the North? Why is South-West and South-East not part of this meeting in far Kano? This  might likely lead to division within  the association instead of uniting the family.

According to information reaching me from the grapevine, the NFF President was reported to have spoken to powers that be in  NRA  to stop some candidates from contesting for NRA Presidency some of them are the former Secretary General of NRA, Prince Moruf Oyekunle Oluwa, Elder Olokor Daniel and the other  one is Dr Omeiza Suleiman.

All the 3 candidates contesting hail from North Central including the anointed one, Alh. Sani Zubairu. I can report that the power block within NRA supported by NFF President  was able to convince Oyekunle Oluwa and Elder Olokor  to forgo their ambitions to become the Association's president despite the fact that they are  from North Central  Referees Council.

The power block was unable to stop Dr Omeiza because he is neutral and a man manager in addition to having the support  of his constituency. His  achievements in the course of the game and after the game are remarkable, so, if it boils down to achievements then he is a man to take NRA to the utopia. Besides all these, he is  also a  full fleded Northerner unlike Oluwa and Co.

As if that is not all, the President is also mounting Increasing pressure on outgoing EXCOs requesting them to send all the  phone numbers of all delegates to him. You may ask yourself what does NFF President Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau has to gain in all of these, or is this an effort to make the NRA subservient to NFF.

The question is which agenda is NFF President pursuing? Why is he trying to favour a particular candidate over another?

The NRA is an independent body and any attempts to interfere or influence the body's election will be met with stiff resistance from the members.

The Nigeria Referees Association is an affiliate of NFF not a subsidiary,. The president should remain neutral  and like a father should not favour any person but support whoever emerges at the end of the day rather than trying to create animosity among NRA members.

NLO gets more broadcast equipment to boost live telecast of matches

The Nationwide League One (NLO) has given its high definition live streaming broadcast production capacity a huge boost with the purchase of more equipment ahead of the 2023 season kickoff.

Poised to give its fans quality content and showcase the rich grassroot football culture of Nigeria to a larger audience, the NLO bought three each Canon XF 100 Handheld camcorder 2.37 MP CMOS Full HD Black Broadcast quality camera, core i7 HP Laptops, HDMI Video Capture, HDMI Cables, and generating sets, to compliment with the existing ones.

The boost of its production capacity entails that the NLO has now expanded its live stream broadcast of matches from the North West, North East, South-South, and South East regions.

NLO's Chief Operating Officer (COO) Olushola Ogunnowo in a chat with the Media Department of the nation's third-tier league, gave a detailed insight into the Secretariat plans as regards the boost of its live stream production capacity.

"Like I did say when we launched the NLO TV app, across the world, live streaming in its many forms has become increasingly popular, as football fans can watch from their phone in Makurdi, a desktop user in Ikenne another on their laptop in Denmark, as all that's needed is a device and the right internet broadband.

"From this season, the NLO TV app will be very active with much content to view, as matches will be on live streaming from 18 of the Stadium League Venues selected by the NLO.

"This opens the possibilities of where the NLO content can be seen and by who. Also being able to live stream these matches on the NLO TV app and links,  gives the fan a greater essence of what it was like to be at any of the match venues.

"We also want to boost fan engagement, which is incredibly important to the NLO. The NLO intends to stir up fans' passion in the communities where the clubs are based weekly, by consistently giving high-definition content from the Stadium League venues.

"This is crucial to the growth of the NLO and the teams involved. The more fans talk about the clubs, players, and Nigeria's grassroot football, the broader the reach that they get.

"Finally, the Nationwide League One also wants to earn a fair share from sponsorship and paid advertisements from brands as these are two key areas in which live streaming of matches can lead to new revenue."

A football enthusiast and one of the strong supporters of Kwara United Football Club, Engineer Olaide Ahmed has rolled out motivational incentive that will propel the team to improve on its current ratings on the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) table, as the league gradually cruises to an end.

In a chat with the Media Team of Kwara United, the Engineer said that the move was to re-energise the players, and to complement the efforts of the government and the Board, at ensuring that the team makes a positive impact in the ongoing 2022/2023 Abridged League season.

Kwara United is presently 8th on the Group A log, and Engineer Olaide believes it's never too late to roll out the plans, with six matches to end the season.

Kwara United has five matches to play in April and has played and lost one of it to Shooting Stars Sports Club in Akure last week. The team will play the next match tomorrow, Saturday, against Bendel Insurance in Benin, with other fixtures against Enyimba International (Akure), Akwa United (Uyo) and Plateau United (Akure) still to be played in April.

The team will play its last two matches in the season in May, against Nasarawa United (Akure) and Remo Stars (Ikenne).

Among the criteria to be considered in picking the Player of the Month are: the player's work rate and contributions to the team, discipline, which captures the player's behaviour on and off the pitch, in the period under review.

While calling on Kwarans to rally round the team, especially at this trying period, Engineer Olaide commended the State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for sustaining support for the team.

Referee Assault: 'I was breathing on Oxygen when Ref Ukah claimed I assaulted him', suspended Remo Stars GM denies allegation

Remo Stars General Manager, Ekene Abubakar Adams says he is yet to come to terms with while breathing with oxygen aid during the botched NPFL home game between Remo Stars and Gombe United, that he earned a ban from the Interim Management Company (IMC) on the allegation that he assaulted match referee Ndubuisi Ukah from Imo State.

The Sky Blues Stars became the third team to be docked three points and three goals by the IMC among other punishments imposed on the club.

Ukah claimed that he was assaulted in the dressing room at halftime as a result of Remo Stars' failure to provide adequate security for the match officials.

In Ukah's report, he alleged that Ekene Adams was the attacker, and the IMC wasted no time to ban him from all NPFL activities for the rest of the season. The IMC further directed Remo Stars to ensure diligent prosecution in the law court, of the club's General Manager.

Adams, now members-elect of the House of Representatives while speaking with the sporting press gave his side of the event.

"There is no iota of truth in the match's official claim. That I was alleged to have assaulted Ukah and banned temporarily from all related Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) activities without any proper investigation and fair hearing on my part from the Interim Management Company (IMC), beats my imagination and also raises questions.

"This for me is prejudice and a way to cut short the ambition of Remo Stars to finish the season among the top 3 teams and feature in the Super 6 playoff.

"How can I stoop so low, to the level of assaulting a match official? The allegation is just cheap blackmail to rubbish my character and the good pedigree that took me years to build for myself in Nigeria football.

"I did not intend to join issues with the IMC, but as a credible stakeholder in Nigeria's football family, I just want to put the fact straight.

"I have never come close to molesting nor traded punches with any match official before or after a game.

"Owing to my health recovery status, I was breathing with the aid of oxygen on the day of the NPFL game.

"So it was my crime to go into the dressing room to ask questions that needed begging answers from the match officials, as the ref was just out there acting on a script given to him and he perfected it well.

"If it's now a crime to go the match officials' dressing room, it means many club administrators should be banned as well, as the IMC should refer to one that has not gone to the dressing room to ask questions during the match interval.

"How demeaning it was and after many appeals, the Ukah refused to continue with the game. At 8:00pm (that night) he hurriedly checked out of his hotel room in the company of a few policemen without informing the host team. Not the IMC cared to ask questions about why he did that. To make matters worse, the new official (Reserve Referee) who stood in for him to complete the game added salt to injury, as he was biased."

"I want to thank all that have shown concern regarding the issue for their love and care. The IMC has done good, telling me to have a break from football.

"Mind you, don't deviate Adams from crises as being principled, one that stands for justice and never bends the rules. Did I say I didn't go to the dressing room, I did but never assaulted ref Ukah."

Adams will represent the good people of the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency in the 10th National Assembly after he clinched his ticket under the platform of the (Labour Party).

Sodiq Tunde: Top NPFL clubs monitoring progress of Ekiti United red-hot striker

Prolific goal scorer Sodiq Tunde "Obege" is on the radar of a few Nigerian Premier Football League, NPFL clubs, after he caught the attention of their scouts in a recent NNL match.

The new kid on the block hit the ground running after he fired three goals past FC Ebedei on Matchday 3 of the Nigeria National League  (NNL).

With Ekiti United failing to spark on Matchday One against Madiba FC of Lagos, the pressure was on the team to score its first goal and record its first points of the season, having drawn bye on Matchday 2.

"Obege" who completed his signing to Ekiti United from Timi Giants didn't disappoint the home fans as he opened his season goal account with a hat-trick.

His representative who does not want his name disclosed hinted that more is yet to come from "Obege".

"It is too early to talk about Obege, as his representative, that task is for him to have more playing times so that he can develop his game optimally.

"He is a potent striker no doubt but still has a lot to learn, as he is young, energetic, and has a bright future ahead of him.

"He has started the campaign with a hat trick, so we hope to see more goals from him as he takes the matches as they come."

The goal-scoring skills of the Ede-born and former defunct Gray's Int'l FC striker caught the attention of Ekiti United, who offered the clinical goal hunter a two-year deal after he bagged  9 goals for the team in the Nationwide League One last season.
