NNL Club Owners Take a Stand on Governance Structure

POSITION OF THE CLUB OWNER’S REPRESENTATIVES ON THE MEETING BETWEEN THE NNL INTERIM BOARD REPRESENTATIVES AND THE NFF AD-HOC COMMITTEE TO HARMONIZE ON GOVERNANCE STRUCTURE FOR THE NNL

The meeting was held on the 17th of March, 2015 at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja.

Club Owners Representatives insisted that the board shall consist of a Chairman, Vice-Chairman and 5 other Board members, one each from each of the geo-political zones.

The Club Owners Representatives conceded to the zoning of the Chairmanship position of the NNL to the South East geo-political zone, in line with the provisions of the NFF statutes on equal and fair spread of its Executive Board members.

The position of the Club Owners on the Chairmanship position is that, He or She must belong to one of the NNL Clubs, be one of the immediate past Board members or an existing Board of Directors of the Nigeria National League Limited, as registered with the CAC.

The Club Owners Representatives also agreed to have 6 ordinary Board members of at least one from each of the 6 geo-political zones, from which 1 person will be chosen to be the Vice-Chairman. 3 of the members will be nominated from the immediate past Board for continuity while 3 new ones will be nominated to join them.

The Club Owners Representatives also insisted that the 6 ordinary Board members must belong to a club.

The Club Owners Representatives also agreed to the idea to create a position of the Chief Executive Officer, in line with the desires of NFF, who will supervise the smooth running of the league and also bring the much needed desired sponsorship and investors into the league.

The Club Owners Representatives also agreed to a trial period of this structure, leading to the NFF Executive Board Elections in 2019 to see if it could be sustained or remodeled.

The Club Owners are to present these decisions to the Nigeria National League congress for ratification on a date to be communicated soon.

Representative of the Club owners at the meeting was led by its interim Chairman, Abdul Sule, along with the General Secretary, Layi Adesiyan, and the General Coordinator, Emmanuel Ibah.
