CAFCL: MFM FC advance to the next round with historical win



Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries FC fought gamely on Wednesday evening as they advanced to the next round of the CAF Champions League following an historical win over AS Real Bamako at the newly improved Soccer Temple, Agege Stadium.





The fans will not forget in a hurry the good display of football served by both teams as they witnessed the first Champions League goal by MFM FC's attacking midfielder Akuneto Chijioke at the Agege Stadium.





MFM FC made only one change to the team that drew 1-1 against Real Bamako in the first leg as teenage forward, Abayomi Lawal replaced injured Adekunle Adegboyega in the matchday squad.





After the 1-1 draw in Mali, AS Real Bamako came to Lagos Nigeria with a plan which was to win but they were subdued by the Olukoya Boys after putting up a commendable performance.





The first 45 minutes of the keenly contested match yielded no goal for both teams as the visitors soaked the pressure from the home team with clinical and disciplined approach.




On resumption, the Lagos-based team upped their game looking for the opener but all their attempts to make meaningful impact was dealt with by the Malian side.




MFM FC head coach, Fidelis Ilechukwu introduced Abayomi Lawal for Ayinde Abiodun 10 minutes into the second half and the latter gave a good account of himself with series of decent display. 




With less than five minutes to end the encounter, after countless of failed attempt to score a goal, Abayomi delivered a cross and Akuneto Chijioke scored the only goal of the day with a powerful header.



The game ended 1-0 and MFM FC claimed their first-ever win in a continental competition.
