Kidnappers demand N50m for abducted INEC officials, as family members cry for help in Kogi

Abductors of six Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Officials, in Kogi State have demanded for N50Million before they would release their kidnap victims.

It could recalled that, some INEC staff were abducted in Obajana at the early hours of Sunday, 19th March 2023 during the Kogi State House of Assembly election.

The victims were said to be returning from Kupa North and South under Lokoja Local Government Area in Kogi State before they were attacked by armed hoodlums.

But the Police Public Relation Officer, (PPRO) in Kogi State SP William Ovye Aya had in a statement issued to journalists concerning the incident said 96 persons were rescued by the Police, three injured while two victims were yet to be accounted for.

Addressing a press conference on Monday on behalf of the kidnapped family victims in Lokoja, an Assistant Presiding Officer II, (APO II) in the March 18th Kogi House of Assembly election identified as Babalola Oluwatobi Peter said his sister was part of those who is still held in captivity.

Peter, who is a brother to one of the victims, faulted the claim from the Nigeria Police Force that all the kidnapped victims have been rescued.

He mentioned those still in the hands of the kidnappers as Muhammed Maimunat, and Abdulrahaman Raji, who are two serving Corps members.

INEC Ad-Hoc staff who are still in captivity according to Peter are Oyaniran Atinuke Ruth, Florence Shayo Ajayi, Opara Tina and Blessing.

Explaining how the ugly incident occurred on that day, Peter said “We were actually coming from Kupa North and South for the Kogi State House of Assembly election. I worked in the North, so we left North some minutes past six and we got to the South at 8:03PM in which we were asked to move to Lokoja by our SPO’s. I told them personally that we are not going, that they should allow us to sleep, that by 4am the next day, we should pick up and go just like the way we did during the Presidential election.

“But the SPO South said he wants to move. As an APO two, I cannot just tell them that no. All other Corp members told them to let us sleep over but they insisted no. But when they insisted, we had no option than to move. When we got to Obajana, the armed robbers attacked us. We have six vehicles, and our vehicles happen to be the second one.

“The first vehicle was able to move away, while the second vehicle mistakenly hit the culvert and could not move again. But before we could know what was happening, the third vehicle hit us at the back. We have three Police Officers, only one was armed. When the armed robber attacked us, the armed Police officer instructed us to pull off our white and run for our dear life. After everyone was running for their life, I discovered that I didn’t see my sister Oyaniran Atinuke Ruth.

“The incident happened between 1am-2am. Those people that were kidnapped were directly from our bus. We told the security agency including INEC that we are still looking for six people including my sister. They said we should not worry that we will find them. Up till now, nothing has been done. I was shocked when I read in some newspaper that the kidnapped victims have been rescued. Nothing of such. They contacted us recently, demanding for N50Million.

“The kidnappers keep calling us with different numbers. You cannot call them, but they can only call you. They even told us to send them a recharge card which we did just because we don’t want them to hurt my sister and every other victim in their custody.

He, however, called on the Government and security to work towards the release of the abducted victims.

The husband of one of the kidnapped victims Olawafemi Olakanmi said he last spoke to his wife (Florence Shayo Ajayi) around 12am before the incident occurred. “I have not slept since my wife was kidnapped on 19th March 2023. I only call on God to set my wife free” he stated.

All efforts to speak with the Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO) in Kogi State SP William Ovye Aya proved abortive as at the time of filing this report on Monday. He failed to pick calls or respond to text messages sent to his phone lines.

Jos Beach Volleyball Fiesta uncovers talents in beach volleyball, says Barshep-Amakiri

Member of the Nigeria Beach Volleyball Commission, Bolcit Barshep-Amakiri has disclosed that the 1st Jos Beach Volleyball Fiesta has discovered talents and helped the grassroots players to compete at the national level.

Barshep-Amakiri who is also a Member of the Plateau State Volleyball Association revealed this at the closing ceremony of the 1st Jos Beach Volleyball fiesta in Jos on Sunday

The fiesta started on March 24 and runs through March 26, and featured more than 30 teams across the country.

Kada II won the Gold, Youth and Sports won silver, and G-Ranks won Bronze in the Men's category.

In the Women's category, Kada I bagged the gold medal while EdBac won the silver medal, and Kada II won the Bronze medal.

Barshep-Amakiri said the idea behind the fiesta is to encourage  Beach Volleyball at the grassroots and discover talents.

According to her, "The turnout is overwhelming, this idea was born out of the need to encourage the grassroots and create a platform for them to showcase their talent but the response at the end of the day was encouraging.

"We discovered we had about Nine states represented here and it's overwhelming but somehow we can meet up to our expectations. Hopefully generally it is the first of its kind on the plateau soil and in the north-central area and we did very well."

She added that the Participants inspired her and they did justice to the theme of the festa, Pair to Inspire.

"The Participants which are the Volleyball players themselves did justice to the theme which is Pair to Inspire, initially when this idea was born we think we would get a few participants within the north-central region only to find out that we have participants coming from Lagos, Anambra, Benue and this met and surpass our expectations.

"The turn out here by the talents that were displayed, the lead and senior players in beach Volleyball that was displayed here actually did justice to the theme Pair to Inspire, it has also inspired me indirectly that this needs to be taken to the next level, we have to make this yearly event.

"Part of our success factor today is because, we had strategic partners who contributed both in cash, kind and advice in technical Knowledge on how to put on the National event itself, which inspired us to do more actually, we hope to get more strategic partners in subsequent editions, when the next editions will come up we don't know yet but we intend to sustain this in Future," she said

No Mandate To Reclaim, Engr. Ohere's Victory, Clean, Clear, Most Credible in Kogi Central

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Kogi Central Senatorial District have been advised to stop Media trial and efforts at seeking for sympathy over their woeful loses at the just concluded Presidential, National and State Assembly Election held in the district, insisting that there is no mandate to reclaim by the PDP in an election that was squarely won, clean and clear by Engr. Abubakar Ohere of the APC.

The Ohere Political Vanguard, in a statement signed by Taihiru Usman Maliki while reacting to a misleading report on behalf of the Senator Elect, Kogi Central Senatorial District, Engr. Abubakar Ohere, described the PDP Senatorial District Candidate as a bad looser who's trade in stock over the years is to take to the social media to calculate her electoral victory after her outright rejection at the polls.

We make bold to State that for the first time in history of election in Kogi Central, going by the assessment of International and Local observers, the election was adjudged as free, fair, credible, with not a single violence recorded.

The Ohere Political Vanguard wish to therefore describe the misleading information sponsored in section of online media aimed at weeping up sentiments by Barr. Kogi Central Residents with a Story titled: Residents Throw Weight Behind Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, Confident of Retrieving Mandate, described the PDP Senatorial Candidate as living in life of hallucination, asked her to wise up, come to terms with reality that election are over and the APC victory remains a reality.

The Ohere Political Vanguard wonders why in the figment of the imagination of the PDP candidate she will be calculating figures on the air forgetting that INEC as a body and it's activities are governed by the laws.

The Vanguard further described as laughable for the PDP Flagbearer to want to teach INEC on how to declare a winner, explained that each time the PDP Flagbearer loses in an election, it is always like day dream to her. just like it happened at the National Assembly Election, thus making her resort to film making and drama acting on the social media.

The Ohere Political Vanguard notes for the umpteenth time that it is a trade in stock of the PDP never to agree to defeat in any contest, described the present scenario by the PDP Senatorial as an act they are used to.

The Ohere Political Vanguard is not surprised that the PDP is not tired of complaining in an already won contest, urged them to simply concede to defeat rather than attempt to overheat the polity for no just cause, better still head to court for justice as it claim in their news report.

It is unfortunate that since the PDP attempt at militarizing the election in Kogi Central was not able to yield results, the candidate has resorted to manufacturing and manipulating figures on air for INEC to declare them winner outside an already collated result in an election freely won by the APC Senatorial Candidate.

The attempt to claim victory on the air is to us an aberration and undemocratic. We  wonder if it was that simple the way election are won on paper as postulated by the PDP candidate, there wouldn't have been any need for contest in the first place as people would rather work towards the kind of PDP victory through mischief.

The PDP candidate for now should have been  tired of complaining in an already won contest and simply concede and to accept defeat or better still present evidence at the court rather than propaganda.

Manufacturing and manipulating figures on the air for INEC to declare the PDP winner in a mandate freely given by the people of Kogi Central to the APC outside already collated figures is an aberration and Undemocratic, making us to wonder if that was actually the way election are won.  Nobody would have contested election in the first place but rather work towards the kind of PDP victory through mischief.

The PDP without fear or contradiction was a party that was roundly defeated in the February 25th National Assembly Election but has refused to accept defeat for the mere fact that extortion from the higher purse must be allowed to dry up, a character trait the PDP is known for.

Certainly, that the PDP is inflicted with Pain is not out of place having been outrightly rejected can be understood owing to the quantity of dollars invested in the Kogi Central election that was for them a do or die. We however advice Barr. Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan to come to terms with the reality that the people of Kogi Central have freely and willingly given their mandate to the APC.

The outcome of the Kogi Central Senatorial District election is a choice made owing to capacity, competence and antecedents of Engr Abubakar Ohere, a quality that has over the years made him a household name.

While the use of fictitious names in the misleading report by the Barr. Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Campaign Organization remains a hoax, holds no water, the people of Kogi Central since the election results have been declared in favour of the most acceptable candidate, have since moved on, expecting the much desired democracy dividends to start trickling in when Engr. Abubakar Ohere assumes representation.

We therefore use this medium to call on the people of Kogi Central Senatorial District that there mandate is secured and would not be reclaimed outside democratic tenets, rather with overwhelming evidences, we assure them their mandate would be affirmed, signed and sealed legally owing to the preponderance of evidence that the election was free fair and credible.

If for any reason the wounds are refusing to heal, we urge the Barr. Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Campaign Organization to seek legal means of redress in the Tribunal, but they should be rest assured that the APC within the ambit of the law will do all that is desired in protecting and securing the mandate freely given by the people of Kogi Central for Engr Abubakar Ohere of the APC for the good and prosperity of the people.

Joshua Adamu: Expanding Alansmith frontiers to other African domestic leagues

Joshua Adamu, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of FIFA and CAF-certified synthetic pitch installation firm, Alansmith Nigeria Limited has given the main reason why they are the one-stop shop for stadium facilities.

Adamu in a chat with the press, expressed his delight as his work at the FC Ebedei Stadium is earning praises and that, about eight players have moved to Denmark to improve on their professional careers.

It two years and the FC Ebedei Stadium pitch is looking new, it says a lot about the job done and the quality of turf installed on the pitch, can you tell us more about it?

A-First of all I like to credit the team for always looking for the best, like I always say "a good product sells itself" Alansmith Nigeria LTD would give quality products, professional services and excellent after-sales service for maintenance in the long run.

During these two years, FC Ebedei has had about eight (8) of its players move to Denmark to further their football career, credit to the facility installed by Alansmith Nigeria LTD as it's part of the club's success story, so how delighted are you?

I'm very intrigued that we have been able to bring European standards to Nigeria where there is no difference between playing abroad and on our turf which allows a smooth transition to where ever they find themselves because of the world-class facility they trained on while at home.

Teams have poured praises on your work, so how can teams in Nigeria's domestic league benefit from it?

We are accessible, we can be reached via Instagram and our website, and our motto is integrity and professionalism so teams in Nigeria who don't compromise standards and want quality jobs can rest assured that we are their one-stop shop.

Any plans to extend your work beyond the shores of Nigeria?

Yes of course, as we speak we are consulting for projects in African countries and with the COVID pandemic travel restrictions, we've been able to work with foreign partners on their projects here in Africa because we have the equipment and technical experience.

During the live streaming of matches at the FC Ebedei Stadium, comments are always made about the team and facility, how impressed are you?

I'm very impressed, the team is doing a fantastic job because the astroturf is giving the players a platform to showcase their talents and abilities and a good camera view.

House of Reps Member-Elect Ekene Adams thanks Hon. Soname on election victory

Sports Administrator, now members-elect of the House of Representatives, Ekene Abubakar Adams has given glory to God as he specially thanked the President of Remo Stars Football Club of Ikenne, Honourable Kunle Soname.

Adams will represent the good people of the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency in the 10th National Assembly and clinched his ticket under the platform of the (Labour Party) in the elections of the lower legislative chamber, held alongside the presidential on Saturday 25 February.

Adams, who was General Manager of Remo Stars before he clinched the ticket could not hide his delight after he and other 324 members-elect of the Green Chamber were presented their certificate of return by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.

While speaking when he presented his certificate of return issued him by INEC as a member-elect to Soname, Ekene Adams showed encomiums on the billionaire gentleman, business mogul, philanthropist and passionate football lover.

"I give glory to God, my family and the good people for giving me the mandate to serve them in the Green Chamber. All credit goes to Soname for his father's role in my political growth.

"I must from everything that I have learnt from him (Soname) in the many years I have been with him, serve humanity. Without him, we wouldn't have been talking about this feat that I just achieved.

"Soname is not keen about 'God-Fatherism' but he is my political 'godfather, as he's a government despite not holding any position in government, he doesn't have a tribal or religious bias as he sees every Nigerian as one.

"Our philanthropic gesture is what we learnt from him as it knows no bounds. At KADA City in the NPFL four years ago, he single-handedly paid monthly salaries and other logistics, regardless the club was based in Kaduna.

"As a branch of his good works, we must emulate him by making this new government better for the common good of all Nigerians.

"We have nothing to offer Soname than to extend the hands of goods to people. My prayer to God is to keep Soname alive for Nigerians

"Without much ado, I had to come to present my certificate of return to him, as a member-elect in the 10th National Assembly.

"I want to state here clearly that others and I, are his products and will remain his product."
