Blackpool Relegated from Championship to League One

Blackpool have been relegated from the Championship with six games still to play after Rotherham United beat Brighton 1-0.

Lee Clark's Tangerines host Reading on Tuesday, but cannot make up the 19 points they need to catch Rotherham or Fulham.

It ends a four-season stay in the Championship after they were relegated from the Premier League in 2011.
And it will be their first season in the third tier since 2007.

Blackpool have endured a miserable season, having been at the bottom of the table since October and with only four victories. They are the first team to be relegated from the top four divisions in English football.

Clark told the club's website: "We knew it was a case of if and when but it still hurts. It's been a really difficult season and we're now waiting for 3 May [end of the season] to get the rebuild fully underway.

"We've got to give the fans something to smile about again. All that has gone wrong this season has to be used in a way that ensures that it never happens again.

"We need to bounce back to the Championship and become a competitive team once more."

The Tangerines appeared hamstrung from the start, after their first team was reduced to eight players a month prior to their first match in August against Nottingham Forest.
