What Next For Kogi Football Teams?

State Owned Football Teams in Kogi State have encountered series of problems in the past - ranging from poor administration, clash of interests and lack of sound technocrats to move the round leather game forward.

Hon Abdul Adama who was appointed the chairman of Kogi United and Confluence Queens on September 2013 was saddled with the responsibility of restructuring and repositioning both clubs in their respective leagues.

In the past nineteen months there have been massive turn around in the fortunes of the state darling teams (Kogi United and Confluence Queens) and football pundits hailed the brain behind the massive transformation, Adama.

His track records speaks volume right from his time as the financier of Bukola Babes now ABS FC, his massive empowerment of youths and his world class management of Kogi United and Confluence Queens.

Every step taken in targeting a goal to achieve in life has its name and intention and always assist when there is distraction or confusion along the way.

Last season for Kogi United and Confluence Queens was tagged as the season of restructuring and repositioning under the management led by Abdul Adama.

That target was achieved as the clubs witnessed impressive turn around in status, attractive style of play, players’ welfare package, foreign and indigenous sponsorship and lots more.

In readiness for the new NNL season, the management sought for the new best hand in technical crew with former Chelsea trained coach, Yomi Godwin Elijah as head coach.

Elijah, who guided ABS FC to 5th in the last campaign joined hands with former Super Eagles’ defender, Abdul Sule as Technical Adviser and Wasiu Lawal as keepers’ trainer.

With these commendable combination of technical crew and renewed commitment of the management members, it was expected that a new target will be set to encourage focus and concentration for the Wada Boys to actualize that target.

For the first time in the history of Kogi United, they had the chance to engage a national side (Nigeria U23) in a friendly match and Nigerians applauded Adama for his efforts in making the warm up match a reality.

Confluence Queens were not left out, with the club recruiting quality foreign players and attracting some of the best in the land to their fold.

They also played top friendlies against the Super Falcons and Rivers Angels, confirming the top notch administrative qualities of the management led by Adama

After making such a miraculous recovery in making the teams to be reckoned with in 2014, a new direction was taken for the teams to achieve their set goals,

The management set the standard in the last season, the next thing was to build on that success, that’s why Adama termed the 2014/15 campaign ''season of consolidation''.

On Wednesday 1st April 2015, Nigerian League followers thought it was a joke when Adama tendered his resignation.

Adama said the decision to leave the clubsides, which are close to his heart, was difficult as he enjoyed a good working condition throughout his stay adding that he would remain grateful for the chance to serve and contribute to the development of sports in Kogi State.

“This has been a very difficult decision to make as I enjoyed a good and progressive working condition throughout my appointment as chairman of Kogi United and Confluence Queens,” begins Adama.

“I remain grateful to Governor Idris Wada of Kogi State for the opportunity to serve and contribute my quota to the development of sports in our dear state,” Adama said.

There are fears from football pundits on the future of Kogi United and Confluence Queens, if the yet-to-be-named chairman will have the interests of the two teams at heart.

Meanwhile, we wish Hon Adama the best in his future endeavours, hoping he makes a return to the sporting arena.
