#NPFLSuper4: 10 Wolves Share Spoils with Akwa United

Akwa United missed the chance to pull away from their rivals in the 2016 Nigeria Professional Football League Super Four title race as Dele Ajiboye produced a stunning display to earn Warri Wolves a goalless draw at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Wednesday evening.

The Seasiders’ goalkeeper made a string of fine saves to ensure that Maurice Cooreman’s side failed to score in Uyo.
His opposing number Akpan Bassey was brilliant in goal for the Promise Keepers.

Wolves who have lost their last three matches in the competition showed signs of improvements as they get ready for their CAF Champions League assignment in the next eleven days.
Akwa United could have inflicted even more misery on the Seasiders had Ubong Ekpai and Kufre Ebong done better with chances of their own.
The draw – combined with Nasarawa United’s win over Enyimba – sees Akwa United zoom to top on eight points, but are level on the same points with the Solid Miners who are second, while Enyimba (7 points) and Warri Wolves (3 points) are third and fourth respectively.
A sublime piece of skill from Ekpai in the 15th minute nearly lit the blue touch paper after a tight start, the winger saw his cross saved by Ajiboye.
Wolves quickly registered their first chance less than three minutes later but the alert Bassey made a sharp reflex save.
Kufre Ebong was presented with an opportunity midway through the half after he had met a Yusuf Adio’s cross, the forward diverted the ball towards goal, but was denied by Ajiboye.
Akwa United keeper Bassey came off his line to clear to safety after it looked like Wolves were looking like scoring.
The Promise Keepers finished the half strongly with their strikers wasting clear cut opportunities.
Ajiboye was again on hand sixteen minutes after the break to keep the Promise Keepers at bay, with his superb save from Ekpai’s header.
Despite the growing anxiety coming from the Uyo fans, Akwa United  continued to create chances, but lacked quality in front of goal with Ebong and Ekpai wasteful.

Warri Wolves still needed to be alert at the back as the pace of Ekpai caused problems, but were equally as profligate in front of goal as Bassey was once again at his best to save late in the match.
