Sunshine wins battle of Stars against Remo

Thomas Adesina's strike in the 14th secures maximum points for Sunshine Stars of Akure in Match Day 18 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) against Remo Stars Football Club (RSFC).

Despite the demise of the first team goalkeeper trainer, Late Muhammed Abdullahi Perez, the Sky Blue Stars traveled to honour the match and a minute silence was observed with a black armband wrapped around the players arm.

The game started firmly with both teams playing in a very attractive manner until Sunshine Stars' Ayo Waka tried a shot that Walbe David calmly saved.

Remo Stars' top scorer, Victor Mbaoma got a chance that could have give the visitors an early goal but the referee ruled him offside before Sunshine Stars' Sikiru Alimi plays a ball wide.

In the 14th minute of the game, Thomas Adesina put the home side ahead when he gets a pass that goes in through our defenders before he calmly slot in.

Just immediately after the goal, Victor Mbaoma sends in a pass to locate Ekene Awazie but the host defenders were too strong to deny his attempt.

Sikiru Alimi had another chance to extend the lead for the Owena Waves but his shot wasn't accurate to displace Walbe David.

A bright chance for Remo Stars through Ekene Awazie, he dribbles past Sunshine Stars defenders but Henry Ayodele was at alert to deny him yet again.

Just before half time, Ganda Samuel forced Henry Ayodele to another save as he shots from close range.

Immediately after the half time break, the host had another chance when Walbe David couldn't handle the ball at first attempt but later got another chance to keep it safe.

Double chance for Walbe David again after Nojeem Raji and Abbey Sunday tried to extend the lead for the visitors in the 2nd half of the game.

The Sky Blue Stars had missed opportunities to get an equaliser in the closing minutes of the game after Ekene Awazie had a chance to shot from close range.

Efforts to get an equaliser proved abortive yet again after the visitors had series of chances to come back into the game but couldn't get the final ball into the back of the net
