2017 Aiteo Cup champions, Akwa United on Saturday defeated Elkanemi Warriors 2-1 to set a final place meeting against Kano Pillars in the maiden Ahlan Cup Preseason tournament.

The second semifinal clash played at the Kano Pillars Stadium saw the Promise keepers taking a first half lead after Dennis Nya converted a penalty in the 12th minutes.

Suleiman Mohammed scored the equalizer for Elkanemi in the 68th minutes as he rose above everyone to head home a cross.

Yenneh Tentoh scored what was the eventual winner for Akwa United with six minutes remaining after latching on to a well measured pass from Adeshina Gata.

Akwa's  forward Otegbeye Ajibola was sent off in the closing minutes for dissent but Elkanemi could not used the numerical advantage to force the game into shootouts.

Elkanemi could have equalized in the 14th minute but Akwa keeper, Olorunleke Ojo calmly gathered Nura Muhammad's shot at the edge of the box.

Ojo also rescued situation for Akwa soon after as he claimed a 25 yards effort from Joshua Anthony.

The CAF confederation cups team also had chances to increase the goal margin but shy off in the final third.

The final of the preseason tournament will be decided on Sunday between Akwa United and Kano Pillars at the Sanni Abacha Stadium by 4pm.

Kano Pillars will aim to clinch their second preseason trophy after their feat in the Gold Cup Tourney in Ilorin while Akwa will hope win the cup to raise their spirit as they intensify their preparation for the CAF Confederation Cup.
