Akwa United set up Elkanemi clash in Ahlan Cup semis


Akwa United Football Club have progressed to the semi final of the Ahlan Cup Preseason Tournament in Kano after playing a 1-1 draw with Wikki Tourists of Bauchi in their last group game on Wednesday.

The Promise Keepers made it to the last four of the tournament as Group B winners with a total of 9 points from five matches following two wins and three draws.

Coach Abdu Maikaba's side went into the match against Wikki Tourists knowing that a win or draw will see them through to the semi final. 

Gabriel Okechukwu put the Uyo based team ahead in the 27th minute, before Wikki Tourists equalised five minutes later as both teams settled for a draw.

The Promise Keepers finished the group stage of the competition unbeaten and will face El-kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri on Saturday at the Sani Abacha Stadium at 4pm

Group B runners up Katsina United forced Enyimba International to a goalless draw in the last group game. The result ensure they book their passage to the last four where they will face Group A winners Kano Pillars on Friday.
