NWPL: Shola Pleased With Confluence Queens' Performance Despite Defeat To Rivers Angels

Confluence Queens Chief Coach Shola Adewuyi has expressed satisfaction over his girls' performance in their week 6 Nigeria Women Premier League, NWPL 0-2 defeat against Rivers Angels in Port-Harcourt.

The match played at the Yakubu Gawon stadium on Saturday according to Shola was his girls best performance so far this season even as it ended as defeat for the Lokoja based club.

Rivers Angels went in front in the 46th minute through a Arit Itu's penalty that amazed everyone in the stadium because no contact or better explanation on what led to the given penalty.

However, the host doubled their lead through veteran Osinachi Ohale whose goal sealed the week 6 victory for the Port-Harcourt team.

Confluence Queens on the hand created some couple of chances in the game and even had a early 3 minute goal scored by Emenike Ijeoma disallowed, and a penalty not given following a handball in the hosts box .

"I am very satisfied with the way we played against Rivers Angels today, the girls gave a good fight,  it's just unfortunate we have nothing to show for it because we were not allowed to play, but it's our best game so far this season" Shola laments to Confluence Queens media

"Our first goal scored by Emenike Ijeoma was disallowed even though it was a good goal, and a controversial penalty was awarded to the home side (Rivers) I hate to complain about the match officials but if we continue like this, our football won't grow."

" Rivers Angels are rated as the best team in the League but the game today didn't reflect that, football should be allowed to played openly and be entertained, Sponsors can only invest into the League if we improve on the level of officiating," he said.

The Yahaya Bello girls will return to Lokoja to face Taraba Queens on Friday in the week 7 and Shola believes his team will bounce back strongly.

"Our focus now is on our home match coming up on Friday against Taraba Queens, we need to get all the maximum point in their game. We will not relent in our efforts to get more points away from home, the battle continues." Shola concludes

The Lokoja based NWPL side have only managed 5pts from five matches and placed 6th in group A log.
