NNL Promotion Race:: Bayelsa United maintain second spot



Ime Kuyak 70th minute strike prove deceive for Bayelsa United with a one all draw over Delta force football club of  Asaba at the Jay Jay Okocha stadium Ogwashi Ukwu in the matchday twenty Five (25) of the Nigeria National league (NNL)

The game which was keenly contested by both side produced scintillating displays more especially from the visitors.

Mebodei Gesiowei could have given Bayelsa United the lead four minutes into the game through Sunday Owoyemi solo move but failed to take the initiative.

The Okowa Boys reply immediately through a set piece when Lazadi Monami fouled Delta force star man Maurice James which resulted to the first booking of the game in the 25th minute but the host free kick was cleared away by Bayelsa United goalkeeper Japheth Opubo.

In the 35th minute Delta force came very close to get first goal but Yusuf Kehinde low shot was blocked by Andrew Ejiogu.

However in the 40th Opubo Japheth again saved a one on one from Ufuoma Ajamikoko, The Restoration boys reply few minute later as Sunday Owoyemi effort was abbreviated  by Delta force goalkeeper Jeff Abu.

After a goalless first of hostility the second half resumed with Bayelsa United mounting pressure on Delta force but Delta force defence line were in their element of frustration as they did well to contain the attacking strength of Samuel Akinibinu and Sunday Owoyemi.

In the 57th minute Coach Ere Dokubo replaced Ime Kuyak for Mebodei Gesiowei  who was ineffective in the first half.

Maurice James gave Delta force lead in the 67th minute when Lazadi Monami brought  Yomi Olaoke in the box the centre referee did think twice but to award the penalty to the host which was expertly converted by Maurice James few minutes later Ime Kuyak levelled parity for the restoration boys through a build up from the amigos Benjamin Nwaogu Sunday Owoyemi as well as Samuel Akinibinu, Samuel Akinibinu had a gracious opportunity to seal the game but his well take shot was deflected by Kenneth Edozie.

The victory leaves Bayelsa United in second place with forty five (45)seven points adrift of Heartland fc closely followed by Go-Round fc on Forty four (44) point, Delta force in fourth position with forty three (43)points with nine games remaining.

The Restoration boys will next  face Crown fc in Nembe this weekend.

Technical adviser of Bayelsa United Daboere Dokubo expressed delight.

"Coach Daboere Dokubo said he's very happy to pick one point away because it's not an easy task  more especially against a closest rival".

"He further stressed when the visitors took the lead that his had nothing but to all come out fully to attack."
