Ibinabo's Brace Shoots Rivers Angels Back to Top

An impressive Ibinabo Georgewill scored a brace and provided an assist to shoot champions, Rivers Angels back to the top of Group B of the NWPL with a 3-1 win over Adamawa Queens.

Making her first league appearance for the season after being away for five months due to a knee injury, Ibinabo ensured the back four of the visitors was hunted for the entire regulation period.

After the first 45 minutes had ended in a stalemate, it took just five minutes into the second half for the hosts to break the deadlock through forward Mercy Amanze who tapped in a cross from Ibinabo.

But it took 9 minutes after that lead for Doshima Tarnum to gift the visitors an equaliser as the defence line of the hosts was caught napping.

In the 67th minute, Rivers Angels went back in front from a corner kick delivered by Glory Iroka with the impressive Ibinabo heading home a beautiful header.

Ibinabo then completed her brace in the 86th minute with yet another header via a corner kick from Iroka.

After the game, Technical Adviser of Rivers Angels, Edwin Okon said he was happy with the result.

“I am happy with the points gotten today, at least it has taken us back to the top of the group which is very important.

“We want to keep maintaining that spot” he added.

The former Super Falcons gaffer was equally full of praise for Ibinabo Georgewill, whom he said kept her promise of scoring two goals today.

“She has been sidelined since the season started and I decided to give her the nod to start today,"Okon revealed.

“She promised to score two goals today and delivered so I'm not surprised because she is a brilliant attacker” he concluded.

On his part, head coach of Adamawa Queens, Ibrahim Badi attributed their defeat to loss of concentration from his girls.

“My players lost concentration which our opponents capitalized on.
“Both teams played well, we will go back to work on our mistakes,” he said.

Rivers Angels now top group B with 23 points and will next play FC Robo on October 8.
