Super Eagles' Sweet Victory and Reality Check

What a sweet victory the Super Eagles gave their fans yesterday in Ndola, Zambia. It was sweet in several ways especially when we consider that it was an away victory.

More so, it has been “a long time” since the team secured such sweet victory in a game of this magnitude, talking about a World Cup qualifier ON THE ROAD. It was sweet because Eagles showed class.

They won convincingly….no poor calls from the centre referee, no “gifted ” goals, no protests, no complains of poor pitch and no talks of WHITE jersey jinx.

The Eagles gave everyone hope that they have a better chance of landing in Russia. The victory was also sweet because the team had a full house of the very best in-form players the country can boast of at the moment.

It was also sweet because NO one is complaining about Gernot Rohr’s performance, tactics, formation or pattern of play. In fact those who nursed genuine fear before the match and came up with all manners of complains ate their words.

Perhaps this was complimented by the 1-1 scoreline of the other group game between Algeria and Cameroon. Little wonder why we are celebrating that draw.

However, we must celebrate with caution because the Indomitable Lions have just shown us that they presently good on the road just like Eagles.

Therefore, we must get the tape of their game with Algeria to understand how the North Africans (who our Eagles next opponents) play and as well study the Lion’s deeply because as we hope to defeat Algeria here at home in the Match-day two fixture, so also Cameroon hope to confine Zambia to the whipping boys zone with a win in Yaounde. Maybe in Cameroon we are seeing a potential rival that may drag Eagles into a photo-finish race.

It is good that Eagles are already ahead in terms of leading the group which saves us the traditional ritual of last minute permutations.

What we need to do now is to up the morale of the team by way of looking for funds to prosecute the remaining fixtures.
