Gata's debut goal salvage total points for ABS FC



Adeshina Gata scored his debut goal for Abubakar Bukola Saraki (ABS) Ilorin FC in a 1-0 victory over visiting Katsina United on Sunday in Ilorin. 


The Match Day 12 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) encounter was decided at the Kwara Stadium Complex, Ilorin. 


Samuel Oyedeji wasted no time in telling Katsina United the Saraki Boys mean business on the day as his bicycle kick with just 27 seconds on the clock went inches away from the bar


Gata, a former Kwara United youngster beat the offside trap to score his first goal for his new club in the 25th minute of the interesting tie. 


The lucky Gata followed two blocked shots to score the only goal of the game. 


Chukwuebuka Anaekwe had fired a shot at goal which was blocked by a Katsina United defender, Samuel Oyedeji followed the blocked shot to shoot again. 


Oyedeji's rebound find a well positioned Gata who beat the offside trap to put the ball in Dami Paul's far left in goal for Katsina United to the delight of spectators at the stadium. 


Dami Paul denied Mohammed Mohammed an obvious goal in the 38th minute when the goalkeeper was well positioned to catch the lanky striker's flying header. 


ABS FC controlled most of the proceedings in the first half with many scoring chances wasted. 


The visitors responded better to half time team talk as they came out smoking in the second stanza. 


A more determined ABS FC defense marshalled by Ernest Governor stood tall to deny the visitors a clear cut goal opportunities. 


With just seconds on the clock, Boje Abdullahi had to lift very high to ensure the Saraki Boys maintained its 100 percent home record so far when a deflected header was almost find the back of the net. 


Chukwuebuka Anaekwe who couldn't train on Friday and was a big doubt for the Katsina United tie was voted the man of the match by journalists. 


Speaking after the match, the coach of Katsina United, Baldwin Bazuaye, said both teams had a good game and gave a good account of themselves. 

"ABS FC is a sound team, we played together in NNL Super 4, my boys didn't play well in the first half but we came out better in the second half. 


"It is just because of one or two mistakes that we made. 


"My team played well today some few lapses made us lose today, myself and colleagues will work on it" Bazuaye said. 


His ABS FC counterpart, Henry Makinwa, said he is delighted his team won today because what is most important is the three points. 


"We are working hard to see the boys scoring goals, I'm working everyday to improve them. 


"I am happy about my boys performance today but we always want to do more. 


"Our visitors played a very good game, we should have scored more but they denied us because they have a good team too" Makinwa said.


ABS FC will now face another newly promoted side Remo Stars in match day 13 in Shagamu on Sunday.
