Governor Aregbesola inspires Osun United to victory over Insurance


State of Osun Governor, Rauf Aregbesola's presence at the Osogbo Township Stadium on Wednesday boosted the morale of Osun United as they recorded a convincing 2-0 win over Bemdel Insurance of Benin in one of the Match day two of Nigeria National League, NNL.

Adeyemi Adeyeye scored a brace to sealed the victory for the Omoluabi Giants over their visitors from the ancient town of Benin.

The former Crown and Remo Stars frontman opened the scoring on 12th minute of the pulsating encounter before sealing all three points from the penalty spot in the 30th minute to send the sumptuous spectators at the Stadium into wide jubilation. 

The Omoluabi Giants continued to dominate after taking the lead and could have gone further ahead, with Mamud Akorede, Tosin Omoyele, Damola Fakayode and Dare Olatunji, threatening, but an impotent Bendel Insurance managed to restrict not conceding more goals.

A thunderous strike by Olatunji Dare, in the added time of the first half was brilliantly saved by Insurance goalkeeper, Nathaniel Asibe. 

A tactical switch from the Benin Arsenal saw them gain some sort of foothold in the game after the hour mark, but it was too late to fight back into the game. 

However, State of Osun Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, was present as the Special Guest of Honour, and was impressed to see his side secure all three points against the Edo State financed side.

Aregbesola said he’s proud of Osun United players and charged them to sustain winning momentum so as to achieve the season set goal of promotion to the Nigeria Professional Football League.

Meanwhile, Bendel Insurance coach, Roland Ewere, said his team lost to a better side, promising to get back to the drawing board to correct errors noticed in the game. 

Osun United gaffer, Duke Udi, commends his charges for great display and promised the team will continue to work hard as the season progresses. 

Osun United will on Sunday be guest to Crown Football Club in a South West derby scheduled for the Soun Township Stadium, Ogbomosho.
