Emmanuel Olubiyo, a Kogi born sports philanthropist has rewarded the medal winning athletes at the just concluded Governor Yahaya Bello U17 Judo Championship in Lokoja.
Hosts Kogi emerged overall champions at the age-grade competition, claiming seven gold, seven silver and two bronze medals.
The former national Handball player gave the gold medal winners a sum of N3,000 each, silver N2,000 and bronze N1000 plus varying token transportation fares to their various home and coach Musa Sule got #5000.
Olubiyo, who was represented by Mr Moses Bako, secretary of YFSON, Kogi State chapter, congratulated the athletes, urging them to remain focus and keep working hard in their career pursuits.
"I wish to congratulate you athletes and the coach for your efforts and sacrifice to make the state proud. I'm aware of what you've been through before, during and after the championship," said Olubiyo.
"However, I will appeal to you never to be discouraged and that there is no way such situation can be totally eradicated in one day. It is a gradual process.
"You must all stick to your determination and dedication to achieve your dreams. That said, I want you accept my little token of motivation and encourage all to stay true to your dreams. Thanks and God bless you all."
In his response, coach Sule, who led the team to championship triumph, expressed joy over the cash gift, thanking the philanthropist and assured the athletes will not relent in their quest for glory.
