IfeanyiUbah saw off Yobe Desert Stars in grueling encounter

FC IfeanyiUbah kicked off the campaign in the new season at the FC IfeanyiUbah International Stadium Nnewi-Ozubulu with a slim victory against Newly Promoted Yobe Desert Stars in a first-ever clash between these two sides in the opening fixture of the 2017/2018 NPFL Season.

The Desert Warriors got the game underway at the fortress for a frenetic first 25 minutes as a tough midfield battle ensued in the middle of the park as both sides sought to assert their own Brand of Football for the game without any major chance created in a keenly fought first half hour that saw few clear cut chances save for Seka Pascal's shot in the 23rd minute which was saved by Goalkeeper Itodo Akor and a series of attempts from Philip Auta and Chinedu Ohanachum all saved by Bamba with Asuquo dictating play in the midfield to give the visitors a bit of an edge heading into the last 10 minutes of the half.

The deadlock was broken by the hitman Godwin Obaje after he was fed by Seka Pascal after maintaining possession given to him by Tony Msonter as a result of a fast break which came about while clearing a cross from Asuquo into the Anambra Warriors Penalty box as the half saw FC IfeanyiUbah head to the locker room with a slender lead.

The second half saw the Visitors roar into action in a bid to get back on level terms and got their goal in the 61st minute as a cross from an Asuquo freekick sailed over the defense and to the head of the tall Defender Musa who guided his own header to Chinedu Ohanachum who was free on Goal to head into the back of the net to restore parity, but the scoreline did not stay the same for long as five minutes later, in a goal similar to Yobe's equaliser Solomon Nsude rose highest to direct Saviour's Cross from a freekick to Gabriel Shola who glanced his header into the goal and send the Fortress into a frenzy as the Anambra Warriors saw of Yobe Desert Stars by 2-1 in the first game of the season.

The Anambra Warriors will next face Niger Tornadoes on Wednesday for match day two of the new campaign.
