All is now set for the maiden edition of Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello’s Soccer fiesta which has been scheduled to kick start on August 10, 2016 to commemorate the 25th year anniversary of the creation of Kogi State.
Speaking to news men in Lokoja, the Coordinator of the project, Otunba Mcpherson Dele Olowo, said sports is a unifying factor capable of bringing the past and the present together, adding that the lofty project was connected to the biblical scripture .
He added that the project is aimed at complementing government efforts in sports development not only in the state but in the entire country to discover talents at the grassroots.
Olowo further explained that it is another way of hunting for talents across the 21 local government areas of the state by galvanizing the youths of the state towards meaningful ventures, adding that the gesture was not only timely but a step in the right direction as government was doing everything humanly possible to identify and encourage upcoming athletes in the state.
The Coordinator said that the championship which is also aimed at celebrating the Silver Jubilee of the creation of Kogi State, tagged KOGI @ 25, stressed that it is worthy of note that the competition is sponsored by the Forum of the Kogi State Local Government Administrators.
He said it is imperative to know that all arrangement have been concluded to ensure a hitch free championship, adding that Kogi State is blessed with great athletes whose potentials are still hidden, but assured that this championship would help to discover them.
He therefore enjoined all and sundry to put all hands on deck to ensure the success of the championship in honour of the youngest and sport loving Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello and as a mark of patriotic support for our dear state.
Otunba Mcpherson also stressed that the historic soccer fiesta is set to take the winner of the championship to international scene in Mauritius come November 2016,disclosing that the preliminaries stage will commence on August 10, 2016 in the three Senatorial Zones across the state.
According to him, “Group A (West), St, Augustine’s College Field, Kabba, Group B (Central) Okehi Stadium, Okehi, Group C (East) Anyingba Stadium, Anyingba with the grand finale at the Confluence Stadium, Lokoja on the 27th August, 2016 which coincides with the anniversary of Kogi State creation.
