IfeanyiUbah Through to Fed Cup Quarters



FC IfeanyiUbah are through to the Quarter finals of the Federation Cup after beating Katsina United by 2 goals to nil. Goals from Suleman Mohammed and Maduabuchi Okereke in the 26th and 89th minutes were all the Anambra Warriors needed to dispatch the Katsina based club.
Ahead of the game FC IfeanyiUbah made 4 changes to the side that got a draw at the weekend against Ikorodu United with the inclusion of goalkeeper Edwin Nwakamma, defenders Cyril Edum, Ikechukwu Mbonu and midfielder Precious Omodu.
The keenly contested encounter was lacking in chances in the early exchanges as both sides played possession football to stave off any imminent threat. The first real chance of the game was created by the Anambra Warriors as Alberico Da Silva intercepted a lose ball, exchanged passes with Bright Onyedikachi teeing up Precious Omode who went for power instead of precision.
The goal for the Anambra Warriors came in the 26th minute from a corner kick as skipper Wilson Elu delivered an incisive ball which Suleman Mohammed finished off with an aplomb. The warriors doubled their lead to kill off the game in the 89th minute as the two substitutes Seka Pascal and Okereke Maduabuchi combined effectively. Seka delivered a through ball which Maduabuchi who was totally unmarked finished off with a thunderous header for the well deserved win.
Speaking to FC IfeanyiUbah Media Team, Coach Rafael Everton said he is delighted with the performance of his boys as qualification for the quarterfinals of the Federation Cup was imperative.
''First i thank God for giving us this deserved victory, the guys really played to instructions today and it really paid off with the secured victory. It was a strong match but we have to utilize the set piece situations that came our way and we really benefited from it. We hope to transcend this form and victory today into our next game on sunday against El Kanemi. We urge our supporters to continue to support us as we will always do our best to get the desired win and make them happy,'' Rafael said.
Reacting to the win, Stand in skipper Elu Wilson was overwhelmed with joy saying it was a well deserved victory for the team.
''I thank God for the victory today and i eulogize my teammates for the fighting spirit and resilience shown today, we hope to carry this result into our next game on sunday against El Kanemi. I want to use this opportunity to tell our fans that we appreciate all their support and prayers, we implore them to be steadfast and unrelenting in their dedication towards us,'' Elu said.
Also reacting, Chairman of the club Chukwuma Ubah said it was a well deserved win for the team as the boys showed massive commitment, desire, drive, absolute and total dedication to the task. The football administrator said the win was burn out of the passion to put smiles on the faces of ardent football followers and adroit fans of the club. He however advised the boys not to rest on their oars as the task ahead is still enormous.
FC IfeanyiUbah will now take on Warri Wolves in the quarter finals.
