NWPL: Rivers Angels Vow to Bounce Back to Winning Ways

Just like a wounded lion, Champions Rivers Angels will be hoping to come back from last weekend’s defeat to Sunshine Queens in Akure when they welcome Adamawa Queens tomorrow at the Yakubu Gowon stadium in Port Harcourt.

The Edwin Okon tutored side tasted her first defeat of the season in the hands of the Akure Babes losing 2-0 in that game but have vowed to make up for the loss by going all out when their visitors come calling.

The reverse fixture of this encounter ended goalless at the Fofure stadium in Yola.

Rivers Angels are currently tied on top of the NWPL log with Sunshine Queens but lead on Akure team on goals difference.

However, Technical Adviser of the Angels, Edwin Okon says his side can’t afford to drop points anymore and has charged his girls to forget the incident that surrounded their loss last weekend and focus on the games ahead.

“The expulsion of Martins White Doves and Capital City Doves has made us lose 12 points on the log and we can’t afford to drop more points anymore,”Okon said.

“Yes, we lost a game that would have seen us go at least 5 points clear if we had won but its a shame because we lost that game to the match officials and not Sunshine Queens,”

“My players must be focused because we have tougher games in front of us as teams are vying to take advantage of the change on the table now, “he added.

Kick-off for the game is 4pm, Saturday, August 20 at Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port-Harcourt.
