3rd NYG: Kwara commends Gov Ahmed, commences preparation for 4th edition


Kwara state has kicked started preparations for the 4th edition of the National Youth Games, even as it is still celebrating its feta at the just concluded 3rd edition of the Games.
Kwara state ended 4th on the final medals table with 10 gold, 10 silver and nine bronze medals, and the Director of Sports, Mallam Tunde Kazeem commended the state Governor, Dr Abdulfatah Ahmed for his moral and financial support for Team Kwara.
 Mallam Kazeem described the feat as a great achievement, which he said was a build up to the last edition in 2016, where the state won eight gold, seven silver and six bronze.
He said that Kwara state came first in three events at the Games, setting a record in doing so.
Kwara came overall first in squash, where it won three gold and three silver, in badminton, where it won two gold and a silver, and in table tennis and para-table tennis, where it won three gold, two silver and one bronze.
After meeting with the Coaches and Organising Secretaries, the Director, who is the Chairman of the Directors’ of Sports Forum in Nigeria, said that preparations for the next edition of the Games has commenced immediately.
He commended all those who contributed to the success of Team Kwara, among whom are Sola Owolabi (Sollamps), who donated t-shirts to all Team Kwara contingents, Hon. Sulaiman Warah, Alhaji Tunde Abdulkareem, Mrs Olanrewaju, Dr. Abdulkareem, Bashorun Kayode Bankole and Emmanuel Olubiyo among others.
Meanwhile, Kwara State Sports Council is planning to re-introduce its marketing concept, Team Kwara, which was designed to seek for sponsors and support for kwara teams to competitions.
The Director of Sports, Mallam Tunde Kazeem said that the re-introduction will assist in complementing the efforts of the government, as government alone cannot continue to shoulder the responsibility of youth and sports development
