The Nigeria Football Federation has commiserated with the Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency Barr. Simon Bako Lalong over the death of his younger brother, Dr. Wummen Tsenba Bako.
Dr. Tsenba Bako died of cancer in the very early hours of Tuesday, 26th September 2017, at the age of 45.
At the Plateau State Government House on Tuesday to mourn with Plateau State’s number one citizen were NFF Executive Committee members Suleiman Yahaya-Kwande, Yusuf Ahmed ‘Fresh’, Sunday Dele-Ajayi, Sharif Rabiu Inuwa, Musa Duhu and Mohammed Alkali, as well as State FA Chairmen Sunday Longbap (Plateau), Taiwo Ogunjobi (Osun), Sharreff Abdullahi Kassim (Kaduna), Yahuza Adamu Ningi (Bauchi), Frank Ilaboya (Edo) and Busari Ishola (Kwara). NFF’s Head of Protocol, Tunde Aderibigbe, was also present.
Delivering the message of Nigerian Football stakeholders at the solemn occasion, Chairman of the Osun State Football Association and former NFF Board Member, Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi consoled Governor Lalong on the sad loss and assured him that the entire Nigerian Football family felt his pain and grief at this moment.
“We are extremely saddened by the death of your brother. We mourn with you on this occasion because you are one of the genuine supporters of the development of Nigerian Football. Our prayer is that the Almighty God will grant you and the family that the deceased has left behind the fortitude to bear the big loss.”
The Deputy Governor of Plateau State, Professor Sonni Gwanle Tyoden thanked the leading football personalities for their condolence visit, before Governor Lalong himself eulogized his late brother for being a pillar of their family as well as of new Nigeria Professional Football League champions, Plateau United.
“I am not really sad because my brother died a fulfilled man. Wummen was a bundle of courage. He was a huge pillar of our family, and was also in the forefront of the success of Plateau United in the just –concluded Nigerian League. Several times, he assisted the team financially in times of need.
“I remember he fasted for 14 days leading to the end of the League season, even on his sick bed. He requested for Plateau United jersey and that was what he was wearing. He only broke his fast the day he learnt that Plateau United had won the title. Before he died, he charged me to continue to give maximum support to Plateau United. Such was his passion for the Club.”
Governor Lalong assured the Nigerian Football family that Plateau State is ready to host the 2017 Annual General Assembly of the NFF. The delegation then signed the condolence register in honour of the late Dr. Tsenba Bako at the Plateau State Government House, Jos
