NYG: Kwara sweeps squash medals


Kwara state is leaving up to its name as the home of squash as they won the Boys and Girls Singles event gold and silver, at the on-going National Youth Games.
In both the Girls and Boys Singles event, it was kwara against Kwara, and the state is also dictating the phase in the team event which will be concluded today.

Rofiat Abdulazeez defeated fellow Kwaran, Odunade Adeyi 3-1 sets in the Girls Singles final, while Durosinlorun Uthman beat Abdulrahman Nasiru to also in the Boys Singles event.

Rofiat Abdulazeez had earlier beaten Kayode Florence of Ondo state in the semi-final. Odunade was stretched to the limit by Ibidun Mejidade from Ogun state in the second semi-final, making extra effort to pull through.

In the Boys semi-finals, Uthman and Nasir defeated Mustapha Habeeb and Idowu Ololade, both of Ogun state respectively, to reach the final.

Coach of Kwara team, Isiaka Magaji, while expressing delight at the feat, dedicated the achievement to the Kwara State Squash Association, sponsors and supporters of various youth development tournaments in the state.

He commended the state government for providing the enabling environment. He also commended the Ministry of Sports, the Sports Council and the stakeholders for their support.

He also commended other squash coaches in the state for their hard work and dedication.
The team event will be concluded tomorrow (Friday).

The President of the Squash Federation, Boye Oyerinde is expected to witness the round up of the squash even of the Games this afternoon (Friday), at the Squash Court of the Kwara State Stadium Complex.
