Team Kwara dazzles at Mini Cadet Table Tennis tourney


Kwara state table tennis cadet players on Tuesday returned home from the recently concluded Koker Farm Mini Cadet Championship with 16 trophies.
The team, led by Coach Kehinde Aiyelabegan also won the glamorous Boys Singles event for players between the ages 10-12, through Tunde ogunfowora. He incidentally defeated another Kwaran, yunus Afeez to the title.
In the Girls Singles event, Aishat Ahmed won the third place prize.
Yunus Afeez and Aishat Ahmed won gold in the Mixed Double for players under the ages 10-12, after defeating Emmanuel of Lagos state and Falana Busayo of Kwara state. The pair Favour James (Lagos) and Awawu Saidu (Kwara) won bronze.
In the Mixed Double event for players between the ages 13-15, Yunus Afeez and Aishat Ahmed won gold, and Ogunfowora Babatunde and Awawu Saidu won silver, all for Kwara state.
Basit Abdulfatai and Aishat Ahmed defeated the pair of Ogunfowora Babatunde and Awawu Saidu to win both gold and silver for Kwara state in the Mixed Double for players between ages 7-9.
In the Girls Singles event for players between ages 7-9, Awawu Saidu and Aishat Ahmed, both of Kwara state won joint third.
Aishat Ahmed paired Awawu Saidu, while Falana Busayo paired Semilore Owoiya to win silver and bronze respectively, in the Mini Cadet Girls Double, even as Abdulfatai Basit and Matthew Fabunmi lost in the final of the Mini Cadet Boys Double to Ogunfowora babatunde of Kwara and Malken (Lagos) to win both gold and silver.
Some of the players have been selected for international competitions.
While receiving the team in his office on Wednesday, the Director of Sports, Mallam Tunde Kazeem commended them for doing the state proud. 
He also commended the coaches for a job well done.
