Quarter-finalists have emerged in the girls category at the ongoing 18th Nestle Milo Secondary Schools Basketball Championships (Confluence Conference) just the Boys have state making to the last four.
At the concluding group games decided earlier on Monday at the Indoor Hall of Confluence Stadium, Lokoja, girls of Harmony Secondary School, Lokoja representing Kogi State defeated their counterparts from Jigawa 43-24 while Kano Girls narrowly edged Plateau by 15-13.
It was a drab game between Yobe and Jigawa which ended 7-6 in favor of the Dutse girls.
The quarter-final games slated for Tuesday, Adamawa Girls will open the court with a game against Plateau, followed by the game involving the host state, Kogi taking on Yobe.
Taraba State girls will hope to have more baskets when they take on Kano while its expected to be crack games between neighbors Bauchi and Jigawa as they will battle for a place in the semi-final.
Meanwhile, Crowther Memorial Secondary School, hoisting the flag of Kogi State, Kano and Adamawa have all booked their places in the last four in the ongoing championships taking place in Lokoja.
While Kogi and Kano came first and second respectively in Group A, Adamawa State will have to wait for who join her in the Group B as runners-up as both Jigawa and Plateau will have to into classification duel to determine the occupant of the last four slot.
The final is expected to be decided on Thursday with eventual winners from both Male and Female categories represent the conference at the national finals slated for Lagos later in the year.
In another development, Kogi State Government has reiterated its commitment to develop unity, integration and togetherness through promotion of school sports in the state.
Special Adviser to Governor Yahaya Bello on Education, Dr Tolorunleke Sunday gave the assertion at the ongoing 18th Nestle Milo Secondary School Basketball Championships in Lokoja.
While expressing satisfaction recorded so far by the state contingents at the championships, Dr Sunday believe the Kogi State representatives will go all the way to win the conference, just as he appreciated Governor Bello for his timely intervention for the state to host the Championships with the provision of necessary logistics.
He assured that the present administration will continue to develop all sectors including education through sports with provision and upgrading sports facilities in schools across the state.
"Under my watch at the Education ministry, I will continue to encourage school sports with the aim of identifying hidden talents, fish them out with a view to improve sports development not only in the state but in the country at large," Dr Sunday said.
He however, solicited support of stakeholders in education and sports to develop the sectors in the state.
