Fed Cup: Resilient Rivers Angels Through to Next Round

An Amarachi Ojinma’s last gasp goal ensured six times Women’s Federation champions, Rivers Angels progressed into the round of 16 of this year’s Federation cup with a had fought 3-2 victory over 10 men FC Robo of Lagos.
The Edwin Okon led side came from behind twice to snatch the victory in a game where everyone was kept on their toes till the last second.
Despite their bright start to the game it was FC Robo that took the lead in the 12th minute via an Adebisi Amirat well taken free kick from 20 yards with goalkeeper, Charity John unable to stop it.
Rivers Angels became the ones asking all the questions as they continued to haunt the defense line of their opponent until the 42nd minute when Amaechi Ojini who came off the bench to replace injured Mercy Amanze sent in a beautiful header to level terms.
However, FC Robo went back in front in the 63rd minute through a Folajumo Alaba’s effort after she was left unmarked inside the box.
In the 74th minute FC Robo were reduced to 10 men after their captain, Rasheedat Ajibade was shown a second yellow following a confrontation with the center referee when Glory Iroka was brought down inside the box and a penalty awarded.
Amarachi Ojinma stepped in to take the kick and brought the score line back to square.

And in the 90th minute, Ojinma completed her brace after goalkeeper Unamba Augustina tried to parry away a shot from Amaechi Ojini.
The girls will now return home to prepare for their week two game in the Nigeria Women Premier League on Sunday against Sunshine Queens.
